Jets’ Becton Has Big Goals for 2020

When Joe Douglas sent in his pick on April 26, he had high hopes for Mekhi Becton, the first offensive lineman selected by the Jets in the first round since 2006.

In a Zoom conference call with reporters, Becton said he has two goals for his rookie season: one personal and one for the team. He wants the team to make the playoffs, and he’s aiming for the starting lineup in order to help them get there.

Becton is the perfect fit for New York. Since the draft, he’s participated in every media appearance requested of him and been very active with fans on social media. The 21-year-old rookie is 6-foot-7 and 364 pounds, and he’s been described as a kind and generous person. He even FaceTimed with young patients living in a New York hospital to lift their spirits.

Becton has also been very active with his teammates. He told reporters that he’s been talking to Sam Darnold and Le’Veon Bell to try to learn the playbook. He’s also been in touch with the Jets’ new wide receivers in preparation for the upcoming season.

Sam Darnold is likely excited to have someone as big as Becton ready to keep his blindside safe. Though Becton may be a gentle guy off the field, he’s a bodyguard on it.

With a mentality like Becton’s, the Jets have their sights set on the postseason and a very bright future.
