Over the past two years, Jarren Duran has become one of the Red Sox’s most popular prospects. The twenty-four-year-old is the Red Sox third-best prospect and off to a hot start. While the minor league season is less than two weeks old, Duran’s skills have been on full display. With Duran’s MLB debut expected to come at some point in the next year, he is providing hope for a bright future.
In eight games this year, Duran is hitting .281. After starting the season 0-11, the California native has gone 8-17 in his last five games. In his past three games, Duran has been hard to keep off the bases as he has three hits and has forced two walks. Less than two weeks into the season, the former seventh-round pick has been one of Woosox’s best players.
Additionally, Duran’s power has been on full display over the past week. On Tuesday, Duran had his first multi-home run game of the year. He now has three home runs this season, which leads the team. The former seventh-round pick is also tied for the team lead in RBI’s with four. Through the first two weeks of Woosox’s inaugural campaign, Duran leads the team in almost every offensive category.

In Duran’s first taste of Triple-A ball, he has shown the skills that have impressed scouts. His new swing has also added more power and resulted in four extra-base hits. Entering the 2021 season, Duran had just eight home runs in his minor league career. While Duran is known for his speed, he has yet to swipe a bag this season. The stolen bases, however, will come as his average continues to inch closer to .300.
When to expect Duran’s MLB debut
As the 2021 season continues, Duran’s play will be watched closely. His major league debut could come later this season. While Franchy Cordero’s struggles have increased fan’s desire to see Duran, it is more likely that Danny Santana is called up first. Santana has experience in the majors, and it shouldn’t be long before Duran is at Fenway.
While the Red Sox have one of the best records in baseball, they have struggled of late. Once he is ready, Duran could provide a boost. He has hit at every level he’s played at. This season he has also shown that there is some power to his bat. Regardless of how much longer Duran is in Worcester, his progress will be something to watch with a major league debut on the horizon.
