James Wiseman Leaves Memphis Following Suspension

NBA prospect and Memphis star James Wiseman will be leaving the school after receiving a suspension by the NCAA.

Wiseman was suspended for 11 games after it was found out that his high school coach and former NBA guard, Penny Hardaway, paid for Wiseman and his family to move to Memphis, where he would play for Memphis East High School.

Wiseman, who is considered one of the top prospects in the 2020 draft, spoke out on Instagram, saying, “Ever since I was a little kid, it’s been a dream of mine to play in the NBA… this was not how I expected my freshman season to be, but I’m thankful for everyone who has supported my family and me throughout this process.”

Wiseman also later thanked the Memphis coaching staff and players for the opportunity that they gave the young center. Wiseman had only played in three games before being suspended by the NCAA, and during those games, he averaged 19.7 points and 10.7 rebounds in 23 minutes of play.

“I feel blessed for the opportunity to be a Tiger and for having the honor to play with these special group of guys. I can’t wait to see what they all accomplish this season. The friends and fans of Tiger nation will always hold a place in my heart,” said Wiseman.

With the seven-foot-one big-man out of college, Wiseman’s focus will be working out for the NBA draft combine and other such events to help keep his draft stock relative.
