Jaguars, Mike Glennon Agree to Deal

The Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to a deal with quarterback Mike Glennon on Friday. Terms of the agreement are unknown.

“Mike is entering his eighth season in the NFL and will bring vital experience into our quarterback room and make us a better football team,” Jaguars coach Doug Marrone said in a statement. “We want to be as strong as possible at every position, and we expect Mike to come in and work hard, compete every day and help our team win.”

Even though the Jaguars have a quarterback in Gardner Minshew, they wanted to add depth at the position. Jaguars general manager David Caldwell told Mike Florio of ProFootball Talk that they had talked with Andy Dalton and his agent before Dalton signed with the Cowboys.

“With that being said, we’re always about competition and getting the best people here, so we do need depth at that position and to bring in other guys,” Caldwell told Florio.

Glennon was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013. He threw 29 touchdown passes and had 15 interceptions in two years with the Buccaneers. In 2017, he signed with the Chicago Bears. In four games with the Bears, Glennon threw for 833 yards and four touchdowns with five interceptions before he was benched for Mitchell Trubisky.

In 2018, he was with the Arizona Cardinals and threw for 174 yards and one touchdown. Last year, he played in two games with the Raiders.

Glennon will add depth to the quarterback position for the Jaguars and will compete with Josh Dobbs and Jake Luton to be Minshew’s backup.
