Is Joe Douglas Backing Adam Gase?

New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas addressed the media Tuesday after their 0-8 start but he didn’t seem to put much blame on Adam Gase.

Douglas talked to the media following the NFL trade deadline, but there wasn’t much talk about the deadline because his team is winless. So, Douglas was asked by reporters about the team’s direction moving forward.

The main takeaway from Douglas’ comments was his loyalty to his Gase. When asked if Gase is the right coach to get the Jets where they want to be, Douglas replied, “The hope is that we can fix these problems together and be here together for a while.”

But does he believe Gase is a part of the solution moving forward?

“Yes,” Douglas said.

Now Douglas may just be doing his job by not airing out his head coach publicly, but how can someone in their right mind believe that Gase is a championship-caliber head coach?

He is at the forefront of why the team is the only winless team in the NFL. Gase’s offense is ranked last in offensive yards and points per game.

He had Le’Veon Bell – one of the best running backs in the league a few years ago – before the team released him but he didn’t like him so he didn’t utilize him the way he should’ve in the offense. Gase was labeled an offensive genius by owner Christopher Johnson, yet he has wasted the early part of Sam Darnold’s career.

The only way that Gase can be a part of the Jets’ solution is if he continues to be so bad at his job that he leads them to an 0-16 season to ensure that they get the best player in college football, Trevor Lawrence.

But other than that, it’s pretty clear to every Jets fan that the writing is on the wall. Gase isn’t the answer going forward, and Douglas should know that.
