With two of the faces of Kansas City’s defense gone Chris Jones is now the star of the Chiefs defense.
With his big personality, big smile and a lot of ambition Chris Jones is now the face of the Kansas City Chiefs defense.
The defensive lineman was drafted by Kansas City in 2016 and has grown since then to become one of the most recognizable faces of the franchise.
He finished the 2018 season third in the league and first on the team with 15.5 sacks, along with 40 combined tackles, five passes defended, two forced fumbles, 29 quarterback hits, and an interception.
Jones was named second-team All-Pro for his performance in 2018 and recorded a sack in all games from Week 5 up through Week 16, setting an NFL record of 11 consecutive games with a sack.
With the departures, this offseason of veterans such as Justin Houston and Eric Berry who had a significant impact in the locker room and on the field this is Chris Jones‘ defense now.
Jones now the leader of the Chiefs new look defense with look to improve upon a rough 2018 season for the unit with other returning starters such as Reggie Ragland, Anthony Hitchens, and Kendall Fuller.
After putting up monster numbers in 2018, Jones will be expected to continue the dominant play and shed through the offensive lines in 2019.
Additionally, 2019 is important for Jones in terms of his future. A big year could set him up for a big-payday as his contract nears its end.
Hopefully, he can work out a new long-term deal with Kansas City before then, but if not, he will be expected to get the franchise tag.
The Chiefs need to do everything they can to keep him around as much as possible, as the former second-round pick out of Mississippi State, could be one of the cornerstones of new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defense for years to come.
What Jones special is his ability to energize the locker room with his playful personality and his fiery personality on the field.
Entering his fourth season with the Chiefs, Jones “Dr. Jekill and Mr. Hyde personality” will keep his playful spirit cheering his teammates off the field while roaring and motivating all of them once on the field.
With the defense still searching for some edge, Jones could be the perfect man to embody a rebirth of the Chiefs defense.
