How Should Jets Draft Following Opening Week of Free Agency?

Joe Douglas’s Jets have been super active this offseason. They have completely revamped the offensive line, solidified the defensive backfield, and have retained most of their veterans.

The Jets have a rejuvenated offensive line and still have to add to that in the draft. They also need to shore up their receiving corps and defensive line. That may come through Jadeveon Clowney, who is drawing interest from several teams including the Jets.

Here is who the Jets should target with their top draft picks:

Round 1, Pick 11: Andrew Thomas

The Jets have been rumored to have interest in offensive tackle Andrew Thomas out of Georgia. The fit is like a glove with the Jets needing a top piece on the offensive line; Thomas fits that bill. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound 21-year-old would be able to bounce between right and left tackle if needed, giving the Jets some great flexibility with a new line still learning chemistry. New York signed George Fant, Alex Lewis, Greg Van Roten, and Connor McGovern, so adding Thomas would really make the offensive line one of the league’s strongest.

Round 2, Pick 48: Tee Higgins

This pick may be unlikely but nothing can be ruled out for sure. The Jets badly need a young wide receiver to pair with Sam Darnold. The class is full of receivers such as Tee Higgins, 21, from Clemson. Higgins is 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds and has shown some impressive athleticism. He would be a blessing to pair with Sam Darnold but may not be available at this pick.

Round 3, Pick 68: Isaiah Wilson

As mentioned above, the Jets will be looking to improve their offensive line and Isaiah Wilson also from Georgia would be a great addition. The kid from Brooklyn would be a great snag with this pick and will likely be a starter within his first couple of seasons in the league. Standing at 6-foot-7 and 350 pounds, he has a chance to be a one-man wrecking crew. He would add to the very strong line mentioned above.

Round 4, Pick 79: Troy Pride, Jr.

The Jets have really improved their cornerback core but most of the players are on one-year deals. The Jets have a chance to get a high-potential corner out of Notre Dame in Troy Pride, Jr.  The sneaky 5-foot-11, 195-pound cornerback would be very versatile and is a low-risk, high-reward pick. The Jets have retained Brian Poole, Arthur Maulet, and Pierre Desir to the cornerback corps and Pride would further solidify that group.
