How Can Paris Saint-Germain Advance To The Quarterfinals?

Paris Saint-Germain vs Barcelona

On Wednesday, the second leg between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in the Champions League Round of 16 will take place. One club advances and the other goes home. Both teams are determined to advance to the next round. Round 2 could go either way.

Round One… Fight!

Les Parisiens took the win in the first encounter with a final score of 4-1. They have the advantage but it is not over yet. Back in 2017, PSG had a 4-0 aggregate lead after the first leg. However, Barcelona won the second leg with a 6-1 score, thus advancing 6-5 on aggregate. Both clubs are different than what they were four years ago. However, fate can certainly repeat itself. It’s up to PSG to prevent that from happening.

What Will It Take For Les Parisiens To Put Barcelona Away?

Obviously, the top priority is to score goals. Kylian Mbappe will need to be the effort he put in the first encounter. He will likely have to play even harder in this match. The entire PSG squad will have to go full-on. In PSG’s case, every minute of this match counts. It is about maintaining discipline and keeping a winning mentality.

Paris Saint-Germain must limit Barcelona’s scoring opportunities. Allowing Barcelona to score a few goals will enable them to take advantage of the away goal rule. That rule has haunted Les Parisiens in the past, so they cannot find themselves in that situation. In addition, PSG is hoping that Neymar will be able to play along with Angel Di Maria.

Overall, it is about not allowing fate to repeat itself no matter what scenario it’s in. It’s a must-win for both teams. PSG cannot allow Barcelona to have opportunities to score and take control. Les Parisiens cannot grant any favors to Lionel Messi and company. They must play hard on the attack as well as on defense.

Latest News and Rumors

Aside from whether or not Neymar will be ready to go, there are rumors circulating that David de Gea has been linked to a possible move to the French capital.

For a while, things have not been going well for de Gea at Manchester United. He was not present for their 2-0 win against Manchester City. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the absence is due to the birth of de Gea’s child. PSG will look to make a move this summer.
