With the 2021 NFL Draft over and the schedule officially being released, it’s time for my third annual 32 part series where the top three questions will be posed for each NFL team. Here are those three questions for the New York Jets.

How Successful will Robert Saleh be in Year One?
Saleh, the former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator, got his first head coaching job with the Jets. Transitioning from coordinator to head man has seen varying degrees of success or, for some lack, thereof. But to do it in the heavy sports market, New York, comes with that much more scrutiny. But the team made quite a few offseason moves to help him be successful right out of the gate, in a division that last season saw the end of the New England Patriots stranglehold on it come to an end, this may be the tightest division in the NFL from two to four, after Buffalo, this coming season.
Did They Get it Right This Time?
Three years after the Jets drafted Sam Darnold No. 3 overall, they traded him to the Carolina Panthers. Then, they took BYU quarterback Zach Wilson second overall this year. The team improved the offensive line in hopes to keep Wilson upright and they also upgraded the receiving depth chart by signing former AFC South rivals, Corey Davis (Tennessee Titans) and Keelan Cole (Jacksonville Jaguars) in free agency, and drafting Ole Miss receiver Elijah Moore early in the second round. The trio will join Jamison Crowder, Braxton Berrios, and Denzel Mims in the receiver room. Meanwhile, Wilson, like his head coach, will have to deal with the bright lights of NYC. The Jets don’t have a veteran quarterback on the roster, which may become an issue for the rookie.
Will the Running Game be Respected?
Second year running back La’Mical Perine and former Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman, are currently the top two running backs on the Jets roster. They combined for under 300 rushing yards last season. Both battled injuries, with Perine missing six games and Coleman missing eight. Meanwhile, the team’s leading rushers from each of the last two seasons, Frank Gore (659) last season and Le’Veon Bell (789) in 2019 are no longer in New York. The Jets are hoping Coleman and Perine can do enough out of the backfield to aid their rookie signal-caller.
