The 2022 NFL preseason is rapidly approaching, with team practices growing more intense by the day. Coming off an offseason for the ages that changed not only the complexion of individual teams but both the AFC and NFC as a whole. Many things will look quite different from a season ago. It’s the perfect time for the fourth annual edition of Three Burning Questions. As in years past, this 32-part series will look at the three most pressing questions facing each of the 32 teams. Here are the Three Burning Questions for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Difference Maker?
The Eagles made a splash on Draft Day. But rather than who they selected, it was a somewhat shocking trade that arguably made them the unanimous winner of the entire draft when it barely started. They pulled the trigger on a trade with the Tennessee Titans to acquire playmaking wide receiver A.J. Brown. Brown missed four games last season and as a result, fell short of his third straight 1,000 receiving season in as many years. He combined with last season’s rookie DeVonta Smith, who himself ended the season just 84 yards shy of 1,000. He seemed to always be on the receiving end of a play, which was a must-have. The duo should combine for some explosive plays, something both players have been a part of respectively. The duo could be one of the best combos in the league.
No More Excuses for Hurts?
Quarterback Jalen Hurts enters his third NFL season in 2022. Last season he threw for over 3,100 yards and 16 touchdowns, with no interceptions. His performance this year could determine his Eagles’ future, and whether the team will invest big money in a multi-year contract. The addition of Brown, who Hurts has been building comradery with, even prior to the trade in workouts. The acquisition of Brown proves the team, to some extent, is determined to give their signal-caller all the weapons he could ask for to be successful and invest in him long term. Hurts won’t falter under the pressure and put up Pro Bowl and even borderline MVP caliber numbers.

Can They Overtake the Cowboys?
The Eagles finished last season in second place, with their 9-8 record, in arguably the weakest division in the NFL, three games behind the Dallas Cowboys. If the first two questions play out in their favor, the Eagles will not only contend with the Cowboys, they could potentially steal this division.
