Prior to the 2020 NFL season, three questions were posed for each of the 32 teams. This is the recap and answers to those questions for the Washington Football Team.

What will Haskins show in Year Two?
Year two for Dwayne Haskins couldn’t have gone any worse. He went 1-5 as the starter, and Washington benched him in favor of Kyle Allen. Haskins was eventually released by Washington in December. He has since signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After Allen got hurt, veteran Alex Smith returned to the starting role, two years after he suffered a compound fracture of his right tibia and a fractured right fibula. Smith underwent 17 surgeries to repair his leg and fought off an infection that nearly caused doctors to amputate the leg. Smith went 5-1 as the starter and earned the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year Award.
Will Young Be the Unanimous Rookie of the Year?
No. 2 overall pick Chase Young lived up to the hype. A groin injury slowed him down early in the season, but once he was 100 percent healthy, Young was a difference-maker. In 15 games, Young compiled 7.5 sacks, which topped all rookies. He also had 10 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one touchdown scored.
Young, while not unanimous, won the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. He received 42.5 votes, while Carolina Panthers’ safety Jeremy Chinn was second with 4.5.
Is Rivera the Answer?
Washington’s head coach Ron Rivera battled through cancer treatments for the bulk of the season, and he is now cancer-free. He led the team to the NFC East title, albeit with a record of 7-9. The team went one-and-done in the playoffs, but Rivera has not only moved on from the Haskins fiasco, but he has also established this team’s defensive personality going forward.
