Prior to the 2020 NFL season, three questions were posed for each of the 32 teams. This is the recap and answers to those questions for the Minnesota Vikings.
If you want to look back at the previous article you can do that here.
How much will Stefon Diggs be missed?
The biggest question for the Vikings heading into the season was how they would cope with the loss of a receiver of Diggs’ caliber. First-round pick Justin Jefferson flashed onto the scene in his debut season. He tallied 1,400 yards receiving on 88 receptions and accounted for seven touchdowns. If not for the numbers Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert compiled, Jefferson would’ve walked away with the Offensive Rookie of the Year hardware. Adam Thielen had 14 touchdowns and 925 yards receiving.
Kirk Cousins once again eclipsed the 4,000-yard passing plateau. He ended the season with a total of 4,265 and 35 touchdown passes.
Is Dalvin Cook an elite running back?
The answer is an overwhelming yes. The Vikings running back started 14 games. He rushed over 1,500 yards, including 206 in Week 9 against the Lions, and 16 touchdowns. His yards and touchdowns were both career highs. For most of the season, he was neck and neck with Titans running back Derrick Henry for the NFL lead in both yards and touchdowns until Henry pulled away for good right around Week 14. Cook earned his second straight Pro Bowl selection.
Will the new-look defense be able to keep them in games?
The defense battled injuries, especially in the secondary and it showed. The offense was forced to either go score for score with the opponents or play from behind more often than they would’ve liked. Much of their impending offseason decisions will be addressing the defensive side of the ball.
