Prior to the 2020 NFL season, three questions were posed for each of the 32 teams. This is the recap and answers to those questions for the Carolina Panthers.
Will Teddy Bridgewater thrive in his second chance as a starter?
Bridgewater’s first season in Carolina was a lackluster one, as the team finished with just five wins. Management’s confidence with Bridgewater at the helm of the offense has allegedly wavered. The Panthers are among the list of teams who have expressed interest in acquiring Deshaun Watson from Houston, if the Texans pull the trigger on a deal.
How will the latest running back to get paid perform?
Christian McCaffrey, the overwhelming choice for the first overall pick in many fantasy leagues, dealt with a slew of injuries. A high ankle sprain, shoulder, and quad injuries limited the running back to just three games in 2020. Some of Bridgewater’s struggles could be attributed to the loss of the running back.
This is one instance where a team can only go as far as the running game will take them, which in most cases is usually tasked to the signal caller. The talent of a guy like McCaffrey and what he is able to do with the football in his hand keeps opposing defenses guessing all game long. Take him out of the equation and they focus on the quarterback.
If he is back to form, the team will be leaps and bounds better next season regardless of whom is under center.
How much will the defense miss Luke Kuechly?
Defensively, the team was inconsistent at best for most of the season. Second round pick Jeremy Chinn was one of the few bright spots, as the rookie safety tallied over 100 tackles. He also accounted for a pair of defensive touchdowns, each as the result of fumble recoveries. He also had a pair of carries on offense.
