Hawkins Scores 22, BC Tops Sacred Heart, 73-53

In his first campaign as a member of the Boston College Eagles, Deontae Hawkins has shored up a major concern of theirs for a the past few seasons – rebounding. On Tuesday night, it was his offense that carried BC.

The Illinois State transfer, who scored 1,007 points as a member of the Redbirds in three seasons, showed he can still carry a team when called upon.

Hawkins shot 8 of 15 from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point land, and knocked down all three attempts from the charity stripe and ended the night as BC’s high-scorer with 22 points. The Eagles topped Sacred Heart, 73-53.

Trailing 31-30 at the beginning of the second half, BC would open the final frame on a 11-4 run to pull ahead 41-35, forcing a Pioneers timeout.

The Eagles continued to pile on to that advantage, as a Steffon Mitchell layup made it a 69-45 game late.

BC committed just five turnovers in the win.

The Eagles take on Texas Tech (1-0) on Saturday at 12 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena in the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Tip Off.

This sample included people who had played and who were passionate about college athletics, people who were recently out of college and people who have been graduated for a long time. I personally voted that they should be compensated for their image being used for marketing or recruiting and in a way, they are with scholarships.
