Matt Harris pumped in 23 points, and Jahad Thomas added 21 in his season debut, as UMass Lowell nipped Marist, 76-73, on Wednesday evening.

Leading 48-43 at the outset of the second half, UML was unable to build on its lead as Marist made it a one-possession ballgame on multiple occasions.
With the score reading 53-52 in favor of the River Hawks, the Red Foxes has a chance to pull even. However, Brian Parker would miss the free throw for what would have been a 3-point play.
Marist once again had a chance to pull even but a string of fouls, turnovers and missed shots kept UML ahead.
With 16 ticks to go, after Parker hauled won a rebound off a Shawn Jones missed three throw, spotted up for the game-tying 3-pointer, but came up empty. Harris would haul down the board and sink both free throws to seal the River Hawks’ win.
UML, despite shooting 38.1 percent from the field, forced Marist into 17 turnovers.
The River Hawks will host Cornell (1-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
