Five Bold Predictions for the New York Jets

Josh Livi | May 11th, 2020

It’s a brand new season and the New York Jets are back and ready to compete this year. With Tom Brady out of the AFC East, the division is wide open. A revamped offensive line is going to do anything they can to protect Sam Darnold and put the team in a position to win week in and week out. Hopefully this year Darnold won’t catch mono and he could have a healthy and productive 2020 NFL season.

Make sure to check out all of our other team bold predictions here.

Sam Darnold will Lead the League in Touchdown Passes

Darnold is coming off a very strange season. He had a season that fluctuated dramatically from very good, to bad, to just plain awful. Darnold finished the season with 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. However, he is poised to have an explosive season this year. Adam Gase is going to take off the training wheels on Darnold, and the extremely talented offensive line is going to give Darnold more than one second to throw. He will lead the league in touchdown passes and be an extremely viable asset for fantasy owners. I am expecting him to throw for over 30 touchdown passes this year.

Le’Veon Bell will Lead the League in Rushing Yards

It’s no surprise that Gase severely underutilized the star running back. Bell, similarly to Darnold, had a very interesting season. He had 245 rushing attempts in 2019, which was his shortest touch total since 2015 when he finished with 113 rushing attempts. This year, Gase has already said he wants to lessen the load on Bell. They already brought in ageless wonder Frank Gore and drafted a running back in this year’s draft. I have learned to never ever trust anything Gase says, and I am almost positive Bell will demand the ball. Bell is going to finish with over 300 plus rushing attempts this year and put up big numbers. He will show signs of his Pittsburgh Steeler days and I’m pumped to see his patience again this year.

Jamison Crowder will Lead the Jets in Touchdowns

Crowder is going to lead the Jets in touchdown receptions this year. Last year, he had only six touchdowns. This year, given the who new offensive line, the maturity of Darnold, and hopefully a more competent Gase, I am expecting big things. He scored all six of his touchdowns over the final nine games last year, further showing he has a rapport with Darnold.

With Robby Anderson gone, Chris Herndon either always suspended or hurt, and Quincy Enunwa sitting out for the year, Darnold has to throw to someone and that’s Crowder. He and Denzel Mims should form a beautiful one-two punch on the outside. With Mims being so explosive, other teams will have to focus on him as well, and Crowder is certainly good enough to take advantage of a one on one matchup. With a potential career year from Darnold, Crowder is in for big things this season.

Adam Gase will get Fired Before the Season Ends

Not sure if this is really a bold take, as every single Jets fan wants this to happen sooner or later. It’s no secret Gase is one of the leagues worst and most unfit, incapable, coach in the league. He is severely underutilizing our star running back, Bell, and completely stopped the growth of the franchise quarterback.

Last year Gase lead the Jets to a 7-9 record but had a lot of pretty disgusting and ugly losses to very low ranked teams. I truly believe if the Jets start off the season winless again, with Bell being given the rock only a handful of times per game, and Darnold not taking that next step forward. Gase will be given the boot and will be one of the happiest days for the Jets since they last won the Super Bowl in 1969. Gase will be fired before week seven.

The New York Jets will win the AFC East

The Jets are going to win the AFC East this year. With Brady and Rob Gronkowski now playing in Tampa Bay, the Jets are going to dominate the division and finish the season with a record of 10- 6. The Jets defense will be one of the best teams in the league lead by All-Pro Jamal Adams. He will anchor the defense with Marcus Maye, C.J. Mosley, and the rest of the defensive unit. No other team in the division will finish with more than eight wins. Jets will make easy work this year.
