Five Bold Predictions for the Minnesota Vikings

Tanner Elliott | May 19th, 2020

The Minnesota Vikings are no stranger to unpredictable moments, especially in the playoffs. Last season it was the controversial pass interference call against the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card Round. Two seasons ago it was the famous “Minnesota Miracle”. Here we will look at five bold predictions that could happen this season in Minnesota.

The Vikings get the Top Seed in the NFC Playoffs

Even though the NFC is a stacked conference, the Vikings will find a way to secure the number in seed in the playoffs. Compared to the Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks, and San Francisco 49ers, the Vikings play in an easier division. The only competition is the Green Bay Packers and based on their recent draft class, they are more worried about building for the future than getting Aaron Rodgers some help to win now. Meaning Minnesota should have an easier chance at winning their division (and winning more divisional games) compared to the teams listed above.

The Vikings Win Every Divisional Game

Even though the NFC North may not be as hard as other divisions in the NFL, you rarely see teams sweep all of their rivals. Beating the Detriot Lions both times should not be too hard of a task as Minnesota is the more talented team. Beating the Chicago Bears in Chicago, and the Packers in Green Bay will be a more difficult task. Even though those games have the biggest threat of being losses for the Vikings, they are a more talented team than the Bears and some could argue they are more talented than the Packers as well.

Justin Jefferson Wins Offensive Rookie of the Year

Replacing Stefon Diggs, Jefferson will have some big shoes to fill. Although, being round both Adam Thielen and Kyle Rudolph, Jefferson should not get all of the defense’s attention. Putting up monster numbers at LSU last season, Jefferson has the potential to imminently become one of the best young receivers in the game. If he is able to carry his production form LSU to the NFL, the Vikings could once again have one of the best receiver duos in the league.

Dalvin Cook Tops 2,500 All-Purpose Yards

Cook’s ability as a rusher has never been doubted. Especially last season when he rushed for 1,135 yards and averaged 4.5 yards per carry. One underrated part of his game is his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Last season, Cook had 53 receptions for 519 yards. This season, Cook will top at least 1,500 rushing yards with 1,000 receiving yards becoming the fourth player in history to do so.

Danielle Hunter Breaks the Record for Most Sacks in a Season

Hunter is one of the most dominant pass rushers in the league and does not get nearly enough credit as he deserves. Hunter has 54.5 sacks in his five-year career and has had 14.5 sacks each of the past two years. Only being 25 years old, Hunter can put the league on notice and enter his prime with a record-breaking season.

BONUS PREDICTION: Kirk Cousins Wins his First Monday Night Game

One of the biggest meme stats is how Kirk Cousins is an astonishing 0-9 on Monday night. Finally, this will change in week 10 against the Bears. Cousins will finally break the streak and beat the Bears in Chicago for his first-ever Monday night victory.
