Father’s Day is coming up tomorrow, and what better way to spend the day with dad and show him your love, than to take him to a baseball game?
Well for this dad celebrating his first Father’s Day, he gets a double whammy. Living in Syracuse, NY leads to a lot of people talking about the Syracuse University basketball team, but this father couldn’t care less about that and is more excited every April when the Syracuse Chiefs take the field for the first time each season, in historic NBT Bank Stadium.
This year, since my daughter is still too young to enjoy the Syracuse Chiefs’ promo of play catch on the field with dad after the game on Sunday, we, as a family, have decided to go to the Saturday night game instead, mainly so we can enjoy the post-game fireworks display. As if going to a baseball game for my first Father’s Day isn’t enough, we also get to see the Triple-A affiliate of my favorite team, the New York Yankees. This is a chance not only for me to spend a beautiful night of baseball with my family, but I also get to see the future of the Yankees play.
At the writing of this piece, the pitching matchup is slated to be Austin Voth pitching for the Syracuse Chiefs and David Hale pitching for the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. With the news of Tyler Austin being sent down on Thursday night after the Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3, fans have the chance to see some familiar faces for the Yankees including the aforementioned Tyler Austin and the likes of Tommy Kahnle, who is rehabbing, Brandon Drury, if he doesn’t get called up after the start of Jonathan Loaisiga on Friday for the Yankees, Tyler Wade, Clint Frazier, and Billy McKinney.
If your father is a baseball fan, spending the day at the ballpark with him on his special day is a perfect way to show dad how much you love him. Whether it is a Major League or Minor League game, a baseball-loving dad will love spending time with his children at the ballpark. I fell in love with the game while watching games with my grandfather over the years growing up, and hopefully, I can show my children what a great game baseball is, and they can grow up loving the game like I have over the years.
