If you’re still competing for a championship in Week 17, this article is for you. As you prepare for your final matchup, let’s analyze some players that could boom or bust this week, while also looking into players with very safe floors.
Boom
Wilson stepped up in Raheem Mostert’s absence and dominated against the Cardinals, racking up 27.4 PPR points. With Mostert (ankle) officially done for the season, Wilson should serve as the 49ers’ workhorse this week against Seattle. Fire Wilson up as a strong RB1 once again due to his likely volume.
Crowder came alive last week against the Browns, catching seven balls for 92 yards and a touchdown in the Jets’ second-straight win. This week, Sam Darnold’s favorite target will take on a weak Patriots secondary that Stefon Diggs just obliterated. Crowder has incredible upside and should find his way into fantasy lineups.
Everything is trending in the right direction for Thomas to have a great week. Alex Smith is likely to play, and Washington is in a must-win situation against the Eagles. The breakout tight end has scored double-digit PPR points in five straight games, so fire him up again with confidence.
Bust
Drake has produced effectively as the Cardinals’ workhorse back in 2020, but you shouldn’t trust him in a regular-season finale against the incredibly stout Rams’ run defense. It’s a must-win matchup for both sides, but Arizona is likely going to be stymied on the ground in this one.
New Orleans is elite against the pass, and they’re playing for a shot to win the No. 1 seed in the NFC. As such, the reasoning for sitting Anderson this week seems pretty obvious. His inconsistent workload is another reason for concern. Overall, there are just too many factors working against Anderson to trust him this week.
Pittsburgh locked up the AFC North title, so they don’t really have much to play for this week. As a result, Ben Roethlisberger won’t suit up, with Mason Rudolph taking his place. It’s hard to trust any of the Steelers’ pass-catchers with Rudolph under center, so look elsewhere at tight end this week.
Safe Floor
Montgomery has taken over as the Bears’ workhorse, scoring 20+ PPR points in each of his last five contests. With a playoff spot on the line for Chicago, there’s little doubt that Montgomery will receive a heavy workload once again as the focal point of their offense. He can be trusted as a strong RB1 in all leagues.
Ridley has served as the Falcons’ de facto No. 1 WR in Julio Jones’ absence, scoring 14+ PPR points in six straight games. He can be trusted to put up a similar stat-line this week against the Buccaneers. Atlanta may be out of playoff contention, but they’re always going to compete, especially against Tom Brady.
Kittle returned from IR in his usual fashion, scoring 13.2 PPR points against the Cardinals. He’ll play a huge role in San Francisco’s offense this week against the Seahawks and can be trusted to put up his usual TE1 numbers, despite the 49ers being eliminated from postseason contention.
