Week 13 of the 2021 NFL season is in the books. For the majority of the league, Tuesday morning brings a whole new week of football and preparing for their next game. However, a handful of players might not want to leave Week 13 so soon. Here’s a look at who impressed and who underachieved in fantasy football this week.
All point totals are based on PPR scoring.
Quarterback
Winner: Tom Brady (36.62 FPTS)
Run-heavy approach against the Falcons? No way. Tom Brady kept his foot on the gas, completing 38 of 51 passes for 368 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. He is no stranger to the fantasy leaderboard and could be in the overall QB1 conversation as players like Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen underperform.
Loser: Tyrod Taylor (1.3 FPTS)
After posting 38.4 fantasy points over his last two games, Taylor looked like a solid streamer against the Colts. The result? 45 passing yards, zero touchdowns, one interception, and a seat on the bench. Davis Mills took over for Taylor in the blowout loss, though torn ligaments in the journeyman’s left wrist could have contributed to the decision. At the very least, he was a letdown to fantasy managers who believed they could start him.
Running Back
Winner: Javonte Williams (29.8 FPTS)
The Broncos were clobbered by the Chiefs on Sunday night, but Williams looked phenomenal as the clear No. 1 running back amidst Melvin Gordon‘s absence. The rookie posted 23 rushes, six catches, 178 scrimmage yards, and one touchdown, proving that he is fully capable of being a workhorse back. The buy-low window on the North Carolina product passed long ago.
Loser: James Robinson (2.5 FPTS)
It seemed like Robinson could get involved as a pass-catcher against the Rams. Instead, an early fumble relegated him to the bench for the majority of the contest. He finished with just 35 scrimmage yards and certainly did not live up to expectations. He should bounce back in Week 14, but nothing can be guaranteed in an Urban Meyer-led coaching system.
Wide Receiver
Winner: Justin Jefferson (35.6 FPTS)
Jefferson has been one of the best receivers in the NFL as of late, totaling 577 yards, three touchdowns, and 109 fantasy points over his last four games. He’s the overall WR2 this season and should remain involved in the Vikings’ offense with Dalvin Cook (and potentially Adam Thielen) sidelined for the time being.
Loser: Tyreek Hill (4.2 FPTS)
Unfortunately, Hill is always a candidate to be a letdown considering he’s somewhat up-and-down and also carries high expectations on a weekly basis. This was one of the occasions in which he represented a letdown. The speedy wideout caught just two passes for 22 yards on Sunday night. Look for him to bounce back against the Raiders in Week 14.
Tight End
Winner: George Kittle (39.6 FPTS)
It was tempting to put Dallas Goedert here, but how can you know choose Kittle after he finished as the overall TE1 with more than 11 fantasy points of separation. He was the top option with Deebo Samuel out, catching nine passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for five yards. He’s a must-start in every league.
Loser: Hunter Henry (0.0 FPTS)
There were a couple Patriots who could have been listed here. After all, horrible weather conditions prompted Mac Jones to attempt just three passes. However, the reason that Henry gets chosen over the others is that he ranks higher in his respective tier. He went untargeted in Week 13 and now heads into a Week 14 bye.
Defense
Winner: Los Angeles Chargers (19.0 FPTS)
The Chargers ranked first among defenses in fantasy football this week, racking up two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, six sacks, and one touchdown. This was their first double-digit finish of the year, and it was a commanding performance against a Bengals offense that had been rolling over recent weeks. Los Angeles is a top streaming option against the Jake Fromm-led Giants in Week 14.
Loser: Jacksonville Jaguars (-5.0 FPTS)
The Jaguars couldn’t force a turnover on Sunday, giving them just one over the last four weeks. At the same time, they recorded just one sack and were gashed by players like Cooper Kupp and Sony Michel. The unit belongs on waivers.
