Week 10 of the 2020 NFL season is in the books. For the majority of the league, Tuesday morning brings a whole new week of football and preparing for their next game. However, a handful of players might not want to leave Week 10 so soon. Here’s a look at who impressed and who underachieved this week.
Quarterback
Winner: Tom Brady (31.84 FPTS)
It’s safe to say Tom Brady bounced back this week. The future Hall of Famer showed off his talents on Sunday, picking apart the Carolina Panthers’ secondary. He completed 28 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns while being sacked just once. Brady is trending up, though he has a tricky schedule coming up as he takes on the Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs prior to a Week 13 bye.
Loser: Drew Lock (6.98 FPTS)
Week 10 was Drew Lock’s chance to prove that he is the real deal. Instead, he folded. Lock attempted a whopping 47 passes, completing less than half. He added 257 yards and a touchdown, which makes for a solid line, but was picked off four times. He also fumbled once and was sacked twice. Lock gets three tough matchups with the Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, and Chiefs before an easier slate after that.
Running Back
Winner: Alvin Kamara (34.8 FPTS)
Kamara was held to 98 scrimmage yards in Week 10, but none of that mattered because he found the end zone on three occasions. Despite being on the field for just 66 percent of snaps (his second-lowest mark of the season), Kamara capitalized and finished as Week 10’s RB1. He has two matchups coming up against a solid Atlanta Falcons defensive line with a favorable clash with the Denver Broncos sandwiched in between.
Loser: Melvin Gordon (4.6 FPTS)
Gordon was held in check by a weak Las Vegas Raiders defensive line on Sunday. While his 46 rushing yards marked his second-best total dating back to Week 3, he was absent in the passing game and failed to be the centerpiece of the offense. He’s not worth starting against the Dolphins or Saints over the next two weeks.
Wide Receiver
Winner: Cole Beasley (27.9 FPTS)
Perhaps Beasley’s finish as WR1 this week will attract more respect to his name. The WR19 this season, Beasley hauled in 11 of 13 targets for 109 yards and a touchdown against the Cardinals. While inconsistency has been a concern, he will continue to be a solid FLEX option once he returns from his bye.
Loser: Travis Fulgham (1.8 FPTS)
After five straight big games, Fulgham returned from the bye to catch just one pass for eight yards. He was on the field for 89 percent of snaps and garnered five targets but failed to capitalize on his opportunities as the Philadelphia Eagles fell to the New York Giants. Fulgham does have two favorable matchups against the Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks coming up, but he’s still a risky option considering he saw a decreased role with the Eagles’ receiving corps finally healthy.
Tight End
Winner: Mark Andrews (13.1 FPTS)
Week 10 was a quiet week for tight ends, but Andrews finished No. 1. He benefited from Stephon Gilmore‘s absence, catching seven passes for 61 yards. He has a somewhat challenging rest-of-season schedule but remains worthy of a start going forward, especially in Week 11 against the Tennessee Titans.
Loser: T.J. Hockenson (3.3 FPTS)
Hockenson was supposed to be heavily featured in the Detroit Lions’ offense on Sunday with Kenny Golladay out. Instead, Marvin Jones Jr. and D’Andre Swift both saw massive workloads, leading the Lions to a last-second victory. Hockenson should bounce back with a very favorable rest-of-season schedule, but Week 10 was a dud for the second-year tight end.
Defense
Winner: Saints D/ST (15.0 FPTS)
The Saints look like they might be the real deal again. After an incredible shutdown of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 9, New Orleans’ defense continued to impress against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 10. They finished with two sacks and two interceptions in the win, adding nine tackles for loss while allowing 13 points and 281 yards. The Saints have forced five interceptions over the past two games and will look to extend their success in Week 11 against a strong Atlanta Falcons offense.
Loser: Panthers D/ST (-6.0 FPTS)
Speaking of the NFC South, the Carolina Panthers were not good this week. They allowed 546 yards and 44 points to the Buccaneers, both season-worsts. Carolina did pounce on Ronald Jones‘s fumble, but that was it. They need to turn things around if they have any chance of being legitimate postseason contenders. They’ll look to start that process in Week 11 against the Detroit Lions.
