Fantasy Football Week 8 Busts

Week 8 Fantasy Football Busts

Choosing the players who will succeed and benching the ones who will not is essential to winning in fantasy football. Each week, fantasy owners will have to make the tough decision to put a player they like on the bench because the truth is that player is a bust. The willingness to do so is what separates good fantasy owners from bad ones. Let’s take a look at five players who could bust in Week 8.

Tua Tagovailoa – QB, Miami Dolphins (vs BUF)

Tagovailoa has been excellent over the past two weeks putting up 21.4 and 26.5 fantasy points respectively. However, his good performances came against two of the worst passing defenses in the NFL, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Atlanta Falcons. In Week 8, Tagovailoa is facing a tough test against the Buffalo Bills defense. The Bills have allowed the least points to opposing quarterbacks holding them to 11.2 fantasy points per game, the most in a game from Taylor Heinicke in Week 3 with 21.4 fantasy points. Additionally, the Dolphins could be without DeVante Parker this week which could make matters worse for Tagovailoa’s fantasy outlook this week.

Darrel Williams – RB, Kansas City Chiefs (vs NYG)

After Clyde Edwards-Helaire went down to injury, Williams stepped up and took over the starting role. So far, he has been fairly successful. In the last two weeks, Williams has scored 23.9 and 8.0 points respectively. However, this week he could put up numbers similar to last week against the Tennessee Titans. The Chiefs are known for their high-powered passing attack rather than their running game. The number of touches their backs see varies on a week-to-week basis and while one week Williams could receive 20 or more, another he receives five or less. Williams is a solid option if a running back is on by and needs a replacement, but other options should be considered if possible.

Brandin Cooks – WR, Houston Texans (vs LAR)

Cooks has been good, but inconsistent, this year in fantasy football. He is averaging 14.5 fantasy points per game, mainly because of his strong performances in Weeks 1-3. However, since then, he has only had one week where he has scored more than 10 fantasy points. Some fantasy managers are excited for him this week because Tyrod Taylor could be returning under center. However, there are multiple red flags this week. First off, the Texans are facing the Los Angeles Rams. Although Darious Williams will not be playing, their defensive line is one of the best and could disrupt the Texans’ passing game with pressure. Lastly, if Taylor plays coming off an injury, his performance could be worse if he is not fully healthy.

Tim Patrick – WR, Denver Broncos (vs WAS)

Patrick has been a solid option for fantasy owners during the first seven weeks of the year, however that could change this week. Patrick put up 11.6 fantasy points per game in the first seven games. This week, Jerry Jeudy is likely returning from injury which could diminish Patrick’s value. The Broncos already have Courtland Sutton who has been outstanding averaging 14.8 fantasy points per game. With Jeudy back, Patrick projects to be the wide receiver No. 3 on the Broncos depth chart with little fantasy value.

Kyle Pitts – TE, Atlanta Falcons (vs CAR)

Pitts had a slow start to the year with only one week above 10 fantasy points in the first four, but since then he has turned things around. In Weeks 5 and 7 he put up monster weeks scoring 26.9 and 23.3 respectively. However, this week he probably will not have a big week. The Falcons and Pitts were successful in those two weeks because they were facing two of the worst passing defenses against the Dolphins and Washington Football Team. However, in Week 8, the Falcons are facing the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers have been good on the defensive side of the ball only allowing the second least passing yards per game. If the Falcons offense can not get things going against Carolina, Pitts could be in line for a poor week.
