Fantasy players will have to decide whether last week’s high-scoring running back is a sign of things to come or a fluke. However, the most critical part of the waiver wire is finding the right players to stream for the upcoming matchup. Whether you need an injury replacement or your current starter has a bad matchup, it is critical to find the right player to stream. With that in mind, here are eight potential streaming options for Week 5.
The following players are owned in under 50 percent of ESPN leagues. All stats are base on four-point per passing touchdown and PPR scoring.
Matt Ryan vs New York Jets (29.4%)
Last week, Ryan had a season-high four passing touchdowns and 29 fantasy points against the Washington Football Team. It also marked the third game in a row with over 15.6 fantasy points for Ryan, averaging 20.3 per game during that span. More importantly, Ryan has thrown eight touchdowns and an average of 275.3 passing yards per game over the past three weeks. Meanwhile, the Jets have held quarterbacks to only 14.3 fantasy points per game this season. However, they gave up 19.1 fantasy points to Sam Darnold in Week 1 and 18.8 to Ryan Tannehill last week without A.J. Brown or Julio Jones. Ryan should have his second game in a row with over 20 fantasy points.
Sam Darnold vs Philadelphia Eagles (18.3%)
Over the past two weeks, Darnold has turned into Lamar Jackson, scoring two rushing touchdowns in each of his past two games. His five rushing touchdowns this season leads the NFL. Furthermore, Darnold’s five rushing touchdowns match his career total entering the season. More importantly, Darnold has back-to-back games with over 300 passing yards and 25.3 or more fantasy points. Meanwhile, the Eagles have given up an average of 23.8 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the past three weeks. During that span, quarterbacks have thrown for nine touchdowns. Darnold is averaging 297.3 passing yards and 23.7 fantasy points per game this season. He should finish with over 300 passing yards and 24 fantasy points this week against the Eagles.
Dalton Schultz vs New York Giants (21.6%)
Schultz has six or more targets in three of four games this season, averaging six catches per game during those contests. Furthermore, Schultz has averaged 14.5 fantasy points per game this season. Meanwhile, the Giants have struggled to slow down tight ends this year, giving up almost 17 fantasy points per game to the position. They have also given up 15 or more fantasy points to tight ends in three of four games. More importantly, tight ends have scored a touchdown in every game against the Giants this season. Over the past two weeks, Schultz has turned into Dak Prescott’s go-to weapon, with 12 catches on 15 targets for 138 receiving yards, three touchdowns, and 43.8 fantasy points. Fantasy owners should expect Schultz to finish the week as a mid TE1.
Dawson Knox at Kansas City Chiefs (20.0%)
If you read last week’s streamers article, you would have played Knox against the Houston Texans. He has scored at least 8.1 fantasy points in every game, averaging 13.4 per game this season. However, over the past three weeks, Knox has turned into a consistent weapon for Josh Allen. During that span, Knox has four touchdowns while averaging 15.1 fantasy points per game. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have been destroyed by tight ends this season. Tight ends have averaged 17 fantasy points per game against the Chiefs, scoring 12.6 or more in three of four contests. Furthermore, the Chiefs gave up a season-high 28.6 fantasy points to Dallas Goedert and Zach Ertz last week. Make sure you grab Knox this week because, next week, he won’t be on the waiver wire.
Arizona Cardinals D/ST vs San Francisco 49ers (37.2%)
The Cardinals D/ST has been hot and cold this season. They have scored 16 or more fantasy points in half of their games. In the other half, they have a total of negative one fantasy points. However, the Cardinals will likely face Trey Lance in his first career start this week and should make life miserable for the rookie. While he scored 20.4 fantasy points in the second half against the Seattle Seahawks, he isn’t likely to repeat that performance this week. He scored 7.1 of his 20.4 fantasy points on a 76-yard touchdown pass to Deebo Samuel, where the defense completely forgot to cover him. That isn’t likely to happen again this week. Chandler Jones and J.J. Watt should get pressure on the rookie all game long, leading to sacks and turnovers.
Minnesota Vikings D/ST vs Detroit Lions (16.5%)
While the Vikings D/ST has averaged only 4.3 fantasy points per game this season, they are a solid streaming option this week against the Lions. The Vikings have 13 sacks this season, finishing with three or more in all but one game. They have also held their opponents to only 31 points over the past two weeks. Meanwhile, D/STs have scored at least five fantasy points in every game against the Lions this season, averaging 6.8 per contest. Furthermore, the Lions gave up a season-high nine fantasy points to the Chicago Bears D/ST last week. The Vikings D/ST will have no trouble getting pressure on Jared Goff this week and should finish the game with at least nine fantasy points and four sacks.
Ryan Succop vs Miami Dolphins (31.9%)
Despite the heavy rain, Succop made a season-high four field goals, finishing with 14 fantasy points. Succop has scored six or more fantasy points in three of his four games, averaging eight fantasy points per game on the season. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have given up an average of 9.5 fantasy points per game to kickers. Furthermore, besides the blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 2, the Dolphins have given up double-digit fantasy points to kickers in every game this season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off an ugly performance against the New England Patriots last week. So expect them to score at will this week against the Dolphins, giving Succop plenty of scoring opportunities.
Randy Bullock at Jacksonville Jaguars (1.1%)
After the Tennessee Titans released Michael Badgley, Bullock has turned into a consistent kicker for the team. In the three games since joining the Titans, Bullock has made eight of his 10 field goals and all six of his extra-point attempts, averaging 10 fantasy points per game. More importantly, Bullock has scored 11 or more fantasy points in two of his three games this season. Meanwhile, the Jaguars have given up an average of 9.5 fantasy points per game to kickers. They have allowed kickers to score 13 or more fantasy points in half of their games this season. Even if Brown and Jones are both out again this week, the Titans should have no trouble scoring against the Jaguars, opening up scoring opportunities for Bullock.
