With a third of the way through the NFL season, Week 7 is upon us, meaning that it’s time for our weekly fantasy sleepers. Last week was one of our best weeks for picks. Christian Kirk caught two touchdown passes in the Cardinals’ blowout victory on Monday Night Football and Broncos’ running back Phillip Lindsay had 23 carries for over 100 yards in Denver’s win in Foxborough. With a full slate of matchups, here is this week’s sleeper picks.
J.D. McKissic, Washington Football Team
After the switch to Kyle Allen at quarterback, McKissic is beginning to receive an expanded role in Washington’s offense. Therefore, start McKissic as a solid RB3 this week. After coming off an 86-yard performance in the team’s loss to the New York Giants in Week 6, McKissic has posted at least six receptions in each of the past three games. With Washington heading into a matchup with a Dallas defense that has struggled mightily all season long, expect him to receive a high volume of touches once again. The Cowboys are currently ranked 31st in the league in rushing yards per game and 32nd in the league in points per game. They also allowed 124 fantasy points to opposing backs through six weeks. The four-year veteran represents great value this week and is currently owned in just under 35 percent of all major fantasy leagues.
Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns
Look for Mayfield to bounce back this week after a disappointing loss to their divisional rival Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday. The Bengals’ defense has struggled mightily, allowing opposing quarterbacks to throw for over 350 yards twice over their past three games. This makes a plus matchup for Mayfield at his QB24 rank. During his Week 2 performance against Cincinnati, Mayfield was able to complete over 70 percent of his passes while tossing multiple touchdown passes in a Browns’ victory. With both safety Shawn Williams and cornerback William Jackson questionable for the Bengals, the Browns should be able to move the ball with ease offensively, making Mayfield a streamable QB2 for teams in need of a signal-caller.
Christian Kirk, Arizona Cardinals
After rolling with Kirk in the Cardinals’ 38-10 beatdown of the Cowboys on Monday night, stick with the third-year wideout in another favorable matchup in Week 7. Kirk has become a larger part of the Cardinals passing game, posting at least 57 yards receiving or a touchdown in his last four games. Expect another big week from Kirk and clash with a Seahawks’ pass defense that has struggled to slow down opposing passing games over the course of the season. 12 different wide receivers have finished with at least 65 receiving yards early in the season. Opposing teams throw the ball an average of 48 times against Seattle. With Kirk heading into the weak ranked as WR38, he is a low-end WR3 with a high upside.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Green Bay Packers
While he is still unable to be consistent week in and week out even with Aaron Rodgers playing at an MVP level, roll with Valdes-Scantling this week. The Houston Texans are one of four teams in the league to allow nine or more touchdowns to opposing wide receivers. Therefore, their pass defense should provide Rodgers and company with plenty of scoring opportunities. Valdes-Scantling is currently ranked 12th in the NFL with a 36 percent of his team’s target share and also ranks third in the league in deep targets behind only Calvin Ridley and Marquise Brown. After receiving previous opportunities as the Packers’ number two target, start MVS as a boom or bust WR4/WR5 with a high upside.
Anthony Firkser, Tennessee Titans
Firkser took advantage of an ankle injury to starting tight end Jonnu Smith in Week 6 and shined, hauling in eight passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. With Smith expected to once again be a game-time decision heading into Week 7, take a flyer on Firkser as a low-end TE2. With the Steelers ranked second in the league in rush yards per game, allowing under 67 per contest, expect the defense to be keyed in on stopping Derrick Henry. After throwing the ball over 40 times in their Week 6 victory, expect Tannehill once again to have plenty of pass attempts in this matchup. Firkser has been a reliable option for Mike Vrabel’s team over the season, currently ranked four on the Titans in targets. This makes him a streamable starter at an extremely thin position.
