Continuing with our weekly fantasy sleepers article, this week, we take a look at players to take a peek at for your lineups for Week 6. Already one-quarter of the way through the season, this year has been anything but ordinary. Especially for fantasy owners as scheduling changes, breakout performances, and slumping players have all raised significant question marks. Here to help you make a push in your league, let’s dive into this week’s sleepers.
Andy Dalton, Dallas Cowboys
Starting his first game under center for Dallas this Sunday after the gruesome injury to Dak Prescott, Dalton should be in for a big day in Week 6. Headed into a matchup with an Arizona Cardinals defense that recently lost pass rusher, Chandler Jones, to a season-ending biceps injury, expect the Dallas offense to roll. The Cardinals pass rush has struggled mightily to generate pressure at points. They have averaged just a 27.6 pressure rate with Jones on the field this season. Along with this, in four of the six contests this season, opposing passers are averaging over 18.5 fantasy points per game against Vance Joseph‘s group. A regular QB1 week to week from his days in Cincinnati, stream Dalton as a strong QB2 this week.
Julian Edelman, New England Patriots
After a hot start to the season, Edelman has struggled over the past few weeks. Mostly due to the ongoing shuffle at quarterback for the Patriots. Expected to have Cam Newton back for their Monday night matchup with the Denver Broncos, look for him to have a bounce-back Week 6. Struggling mightily against opposing wide receivers at points this season, the Broncos’ defense has allowed 16.8 receptions per game. Leading to the fifth-most fantasy points per game for opposing wideouts. A primary slow receiver, look for him to be matched up primarily with Broncos slot cornerback Essang Bassey. Unable to slow down opposing slot operators, Bassey has allowed 12-14 passes to be completed when thrown his way, making Edelman a high-end WR3 this week.
Irv Smith Jr, Minnesota Vikings
After a season-high in targets during their Week 5 loss in Seattle, Smith should be in for a big day in a matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons have been unable to stop opposing tight ends at any point this year. Thus, Atlanta has allowed five of six opposing tight ends to finish with top-12 numbers. In addition to this, the Falcons defense has given up seven touchdowns to the position group. That is by far the most in the NFL. With running back Dalvin Cook not expected to play this week due to a nagging groin injury, look for the primarily run-heavy Vikings offense to come out throwing against an understaffed Atlanta secondary. A cautious investment for your lineup, Smith should be a viable option in deeper leagues.
Christian Kirk, Arizona Cardinals
Kirk is fresh off a five reception, 78-yard day in their victory against the woeful New York Jets last Sunday. And he has now seen at least five targets in three of the Cardinals’ last four games. Entering a Week 6 matchup against a Dallas defense ranked 29th in the league in yards against, he should be in for another solid performance in Week 6. Unable to slow down any opposing offense this season, Mike Nolan’s unit has now given up 30 or more points in their last four games. Making this a perfect matchup for the high-powered Arizona offense. With the team’s young corners struggling in coverage early on, leading to eight opposing receivers to finish in the top-24 in fantasy points against Dallas this season, Kirk is a solid WR4 heading into the weekend.
Phillip Lindsay, Denver Broncos
With starting running back, Melvin Gordon expected to miss the game due to a DUI citation, expect Lindsay to handle most of the workload on Monday night. In a matchup against a New England defense that has quietly struggled at points this season, if Gordon is unable to go, Lindsay is a sneaky RB2. Averaging a healthy 4.36 yards per carry this season, the Patriots defense has regressed from their no. 1 overall league ranking in 2019. Expected to be a close matchup with Broncos quarterback Drew Lock destined to return from a shoulder injury; look for Lindsay to have a 15-touch floor in this one. Currently projected as RB37 for the week, Lindsay is a strong option for fantasy players in need of a back.
