FA Cup Quarterfinal Reaction and Semifinal Preview

After the quarterfinal round of the 2019-2020 FA Cup saw no upsets, four teams remain — and all are powerhouses in English football.

While it wasn’t easy for them to progress to Wembley, they have done just that.

Manchester United squeaked by Norwich by a score of 2-1, needing extra time. Arsenal used a 91st-minute goal to edge past Sheffield United, 2-1. Chelsea escaped with a 1-0 result against Leicester. Trophy-holders Manchester City were able to win comfortably, cruising past Newcastle.

The finals gives fans the potential for an all-Manchester or all-London final. First, though, the semifinals will take place on July 18 and 19.

Manchester United vs. Chelsea

Manchester United kicked off their campaign with a 4-0 win over Chelsea. While completing the double over them in February, they also eliminated Chelsea from the Carabao Cup this season. That will leave the Red Devils full of confidence heading into this semifinal matchup. Chelsea manager Frank Lampard will have to attempt to surprise his opponents as nothing has worked so far against them.

Prediction: Manchester United win

Arsenal vs. Manchester City

Manchester City completed the double over Arsenal this season, winning both encounters by a score of 3-0. Manchester are much more experienced than this young and rebuilding Gunners squad. Perhaps former City coach and current Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta can develop a tactic to pull off the upset.

Prediction: Manchester City win

A lot can happen with injuries and other aspects between now and when these clubs meet in Wembley, so nothing can be decided today, but on paper, it looks to be an all-Manchester final.
