The Boston Bruins breakout season has been pretty remarkable, and a lot of it has to do with their high quality of play away from TD Garden.
Home ice advantage is big in the NHL and any outside observer could tell you that hockey fans are both loud and crazy.
The Bruins have been pretty solid in front of their fans at TD Garden, however, on the road, they have been an even bigger force to be reckoned with. They hold the best road record in the NHL at 16-5-4.
The road warrior mentality has had an effect on the Boston’s two netminders as well.
Starting goaltender Tuukka Rask has allowed seven fewer goals on the road than he has at home. Anton Khudobin’s goals allowed average is almost a full point better on the road than it is at home.
While their record while in enemy territory is impressive, they’ll need to keep it up if they want a shot at the Atlantic Division crown.
Boston has 29 games left and 17 of them are on the road. The team has a five-game road trip in Canada on the horizon and in March they’ll have another four-game road trip.
Being road warriors is a pretty cool label to have, however, the Bruins are going to want home ice come playoff time and surviving a couple of road trips will go a long way in achieving that goal.
