Drew Brees Returning to Saints in 2020

Drew Brees announced Tuesday on Instagram that he will be returning for his 20th NFL season.

Much to Saints fans’ delight, Brees will play his 15th season in New Orleans after spending his first five with the Chargers. Much of the common speculation was that the 41-year-old Brees would call it quits with claims saying that he has nothing left to prove, especially given the way the Saints last two postseasons dramatically played out; the Saints would have loved an opportunity for redemption against the 49ers in the NFC Championship.

Brees is a guarantee to be a first-ballot Hall of Fame selection for enshrinement in Canton when he decides to finally hang up his cleats.

The 13-time Pro Bowler will look to expand his career passing yards lead over Tom Brady, whom he is currently almost 3,000 yards ahead of. He will also try to extend his career touchdowns lead over Brady; he currently leads by six.

This announcement all but guarantees Teddy Bridgewater will hit the open market. He filled in superbly for Brees when he was out recovering from thumb surgery.
