The Dallas Renegades defeated the Seattle Dragons 24-12 today in front of a crowd of over 22,000 at Century Link Field.
Dallas used a second-half surge to advance past Seattle behind standout performances from tight end Donald Parham and running back Cameron Artis-Payne.
The Renegades improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Dragons drop to 1-2.
Seattle dominated the first half. The Dragons intercepted Dallas quarterback Landry Jones twice and only allowed one score. Offensively, quarterback Brandon Silvers was much better this week, throwing a pair of first-half touchdown passes. Silvers finished the game 21-for-34 for 203 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. Before the close of the first half, Seattle intercepted Dallas quarterback Landry Jones, with enough time on the clock to drive for a field goal attempt. The Dragons played it conservatively, letting the clock expire. Seattle seemed never to recover the momentum.
The second half was all Renegades.
On the first drive of the third quarter, Dallas forced a turnover on downs. Seattle quarterback Brandon Silvers was sacked on fourth and four. The Renegades took over and never looked back, marching down the field in six minutes and tying the game 12-12. After adding a field goal, the Renegades marched again—quarterback Landry Jones connected with tight end Donald Parham on a 65-yard touchdown pass. Parham had an impressive day, finishing with five receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns. The Renegades also got a significant contribution from running back Cameron Artis-Payne. Payne rushed for 80 yards and added 30 yards receiving.

Dallas was very unbalanced offensively in the first half. At one point, the Renegades had thrown the ball on 20 of 24 offensive plays. Offensive coordinator Hal Mumme made the correct second-half adjustments, mixing in both runs and running back swing passes to keep the Dragons defense off balance. Seattle’s defense did make one more key play, given the Dragon offense a chance to tie the game; linebacker Marcel Frazier stripped Landry Jones and recovered the fumble on the Renegade 32-yard line. The Dragons could not capitalize, however. The Dragons turned the ball over on downs. Dallas took over and added another field goal to put away the game.
The Renegades host the Houston Roughnecks next weekend. Houston improved to 3-0 with a 34-27 win over Tampa Bay. Houston and Dallas are natural rivals due to location, and now this matchup is for first place in the XFL Western Division. Seattle, on the other hand, has to regroup quickly. The Dragons travel to St. Louis and then to Houston in consecutive weeks. Road teams are 4-6 so far this season in the XFL.
