DraftKings Around the Horn September 14th, 2019

Joel Dorcas |September 14th, 2019

Only a few weeks until the Post Season season begins so our player pool to choose from will be widdled down considerably soon. As for tonight, the Dodgers and Mets send a couple stud pitchers to the mound, the Padres visit the Rockies with an implied 13 run total attached and the Twins and Indians continue their important series at Progressive Field. Let’s dig right in and go Around the Horn!

PITCHER

Jack Flaherty STL $10,800

Flaherty goes into this pivotal inter-divisional tilt as one of, if not, the hottest pitchers in the majors. Flaherty has pitched to an astounding 0.76 ERA and hitters are slashing just .151/ .220/ .229 over the course of 71.1 innings since the all-star break. Flaherty has registered over 30 DK pts in six of his last 10 games. The Brewers rank 18th in hitting with a .248 average, 20th in runs scored(689) and have the eighth-highest k% at 24.4%. Flaherty and the Cards will also get a break with the dangerous Christian Yellich being sidelined for the remainder of the regular season.

INFILED

Starlin Castro 2B MIA $3,600

Castro has completely turned his season around and has actually turned himself into a formidable player due to his great second half. An impressive .314/ .339/ .567 slash line after the all-star break makes him one of the few players in the Marlin lineup that opposing pitchers need to pay attention to. Castro has punished left-handed pitching this season hitting .327 with nine homers in just 150 at-bats. (His other 10 HRs against right-handed pitching are in 424 at-bats). Castro also has good success facing Madison Bumgarner. In 36 plate appearances, he is hitting a fat .400 along with a .875 OPS. At just $3,600, this profiles as a great value play.

Yoan Moncada 3B/2B CWS $4,700

Switch-hitting  Yoan Moncada is finally living up to all of the hype. He and the White Sox will draw a struggling veteran pitcher in Felix Hernandez who has gone 0-2 with a 8.04 ERA and a 1.72 WHIP over his last four starts. Recently, Moncada has been swinging a really hot bat. In his previous 10 games(not including last night) he is hitting a robust .459 and averaging nearly 12 DK pts per game(11.8). The matchup versus a right-hander bodes well for Moncada as he is slashing .321/ .378/ .568 as opposed to the .259/ .315/ .437 line he carries against southpaws.

OUTFIELD

Eloy Jimenez CHW $4,300

Another young talent on the White Sox that is coming into his own. It’s time to take note of Eloy Jimenez. Jimenez has picked things up considerably for the months of August and September hitting .283 with nine homers and 28 RBI in 39 games. Jimenez actually hits right-handed pitching better than he does when he faces lefties. .259 compared to .233. $4.3 K seems like a good deal for a player who has found his groove and who gets to tee off against Hernandez and a Mariners team who rank as the fourth-worst team in terms of earned run average(5.17). They also give up the second-highest HR/9 in the Majors at 1.70.

Ian Desmond COL $4,500

A home game at Coors for $4.5K for a player that hits left-handed pitching really well is almost a steal. Desmond carries a .298 average along with 11 of his 17 bombs coming off of left-handers(in 88 fewer at-bats). Across the board, Desmond’s slash lines are way better against southpaws: vs L: .298/ .358/ .595, vs. R: .233/ .290/ .390. The home/ away splits favor Desmond as well. At Coors, .304/ .368/ .559, away from Coors it’s a total different story, .214/ .264/ .388

Good luck to everyone tonight, keep grinding out those lineups!
