Glad to get back on board with baseball this week as, even though my NFL cash lineup performed as expected, it failed to cash in for my entry in a double-up contest. My last two lineups for MLB have resulted much better, however, so let’s continue the trend tonight for this full 14 gamer. Giddy up, we’re going for a trip Around the Horn!
PITCHER
Sonny Gray CIN $10,600
With this many games, we would think finding two pitchers would be a breeze but it’s far from that. The mid-tier to bottom tier pitchers are pretty brutal and the top of the heap isn’t great either. Sonny Gray appears to be as safe as an option as you get at and above the 10k mark. The Seattle Mariners rank 21st in runs scored versus right-handed pitching this season with 480 runs. Also against right-handers, they rank 27th in batting average(.236) and have struck out the third-most(1006)in the league.
INFIELD
Kolten Wong STL 2B $4,900
We are going to double dip our chip for our featured infielders, we want Cardinal bats at Coors as they get the ever-struggling Antonio Senzatela. In 88 combined plate appearances they are hitting .325 with a .875 OPS off of the right-hander. Senzatela has had a brutal year(7.19 ERA) and his last three starts have been horrendous, 0-3 and a 15.83 ERA. Wong has only six at-bats versus Senzatela but does have 3 knocks. In his last 12 games before Tuesday, he is hitting .409 with a .705 slug, 9 R, 7 RBI, and 3 SB.
Matt Carpenter STL 3B $4,700
Continuing with the Cardinals bats, why not take a shot with Matt Carpenter. Although it’s been a struggle for the veteran infielder this season, the last 11 games have been trending upwards: .391, with a .431 wOBA. Carpenter has four hits in 10 previous at-bats against Senzatela. Some more ugly stats for Senzatela: 4-4, 7.21 ERA at Coors. Last game he faced St.Louis, 1.2 inns, 6 ER, loss. Also, left-handed hitters are crushing Mr. Senzatela; .351,572 slug, .416 wOBA, 1.76 HR/9, 6.39 FIP.
OUTFIELD
Austin Meadows TB $5,300
The Rays look to continue their winning ways at hitter-friendly Globe Life Park. They will draw Ariel Jurado who is 7-10 with a 5.40 ERA on the season. His previous seven starts have gone a bit south as he has just a single victory and a 7.12 ERA. He has also allowed nine home runs. This will be his first start against the Rays who have gone 9-1 in their last 10 heading into Tuesday’s action. They are averaging 5.4 runs per game during the stretch. Meadows continues to lead Tampa’s offense, he is hitting .360 in his last 50 at-bats before last night’s contests. He also has five homers, 11 RBI and a 1.178 OPS over the 13 game-span.
George Springer HOU $5,400
Springer showed no signs of ill-effects from a concussion that kept him out of the lineup recently as he went yard and drove in four runs this past Sunday. Wednesday the Astros will look to continue to mash left-handed pitching as Brett Anderson toes the rubber for the Athletics. Anderson has given up seven earned runs as well as 13 hits in 10.1 innings of work versus Houston this season. Lifetime, the Astros are hitting .417 with a 1.176 OPS in 91 plate appearances. Over Springer’s last 36 at-bats prior to Tuesday, he is hitting .333 with four HRs and 14 RBI. The head-to-head favors Springer, although it’s just eight at-bats, five hits with a big-fly and four runs driven in.
Good luck to everyone tonight, keep grinding out those lineups!
