We will get to pitching momentarily. First up is a glance at the highest implied run totals for today’s 11-game evening slate. A massive run line of 14 runs easily leads the way as the Boston Red Sox, who all of a sudden are running along very nicely (8-3 in their last 11), visit Coors Field and the Colorado Rockies. Twins-White Sox are at 10.5, Rangers and Angels as well as Pirates-Phillies are both set at 10 and the Indians-Tigers chime in at 9.5. Let’s break down some picks, hop on board, we’re going Around the Horn!
PITCHER
Jake Odorizzi MIN $9,400
Gerrit Cole and Max Scherzer are the obvious high-end plays tonight (although Scherzer isn’t quite at 100 percent as the Nats may limit his pitch count). A nice alternative is Jake Odorizzi against the White Sox. This will save you some dough for some premium bats. Odorizzi is having a great season and has averaged 22 DK pts in two contests this season versus a team in the White Sox that ranks 28th in runs scored with 549. They also strike out at a 25.6% clip which is the fourth highest in the league.
INFIELD
Brock Holt 2B BOS $4,400
We want to get as many Red Sox bats as possible tonight and at $4,400 Holt is actually priced fairly tonight. Holt has stepped up his game in August hitting .351 during the month. He is also 8-for-16 with a homer and three RBI in his last five games. The Rockies rank last in the league in team ERA at home (6.32) and second to last in wOBA given up (3.64). Rockies rookie starter Peter Lambert will kick things off on the mound. He has given up 21 earned runs in his last 5 starts as well as 29 hits and 17 walks in just over 24 innings of work.
Xander Bogaerts SS BOS $5,500
Bogaerts is just to hard to pass up for me tonight. (If need be for $500 less), Jorge Polanco is a fine pivot option versus the White Sox and left-hander Ross Detwiler). Bogaerts gets the edge because of Coors and his stellar play of late. Xander is slugging .730 and hitting .351 in his last 10 games. He is also averaging 13 DK pts over the span of three games versus the Rockies this season.
OUTFIELD
Nelson Cruz MIN $5,500
Another high-priced bat who profiles extremely well tonight is the ageless wonder, Nelly Cruz. Cruz has crushed the Chicago White Sox this season averaging a whopping 18.2 DK pts per game over 11 contests. Cruz has socked 13 of his 33 homers this season against left-handed pitching in just 105 plate appearances. His 20 other home runs against right-handers were totaled in 299 plate appearances. Left-handed starter Ross Detwiler has struggled versus right-handed hitting this season allowing a .410 wOBA and a .617 SLG.
Kole Calhoun LAA $4,300
There is a lot to like with the LA Angels hosting the Texas Rangers tonight as the Rangers boast a 23rd ranked team ERA of 4.98. They are also giving up the second-highest hard-hit percentage in the league at 41.5%. Calhoun has fared well against this division foe. Over the course of 17 games he has averaged 9.2 DK pts per game.
