Gerrit Cole, Max Scherzer, and Ryan Yarbrough appear to be the night slate’s best offerings for starting pitcher tonight. As for filling out the rest of your lineups, there are many ways to approach if we decide to save our budget and go heavy on bats. Lace-up the cleats we’re going Around the Horn
PITCHER
Ryan Yarbrough TB $9,300
Yarbrough has been outstanding for the Rays this season and has had back-to-back really good starts. Versus Detroit, he fanned 10 without giving up any runs in six innings. The start before that one he pitched just over eight innings against Seattle with no earned runs and eight strikeouts. In two games against Baltimore this season, Yarbrough has pitched nine and one-third innings while striking out nine and allowing just two earned runs.
INFIELD
Jose Abreu CHW 1B $4,900
Abreu certainly has turned it up a notch for the month of August. He has tallied six homers 20 RBI and a .325 average going into Wednesday’s action. He and the White Sox will be matched up against projected Texas Rangers starter Ariel Jurado who has compiled a 5.38 ERA, six wins in 98 innings of work. Last time out he only lasted two innings in a loss to the Minnesota Twins. He allowed eight runs, two of which were earned.
Didi Gregorius NYY SS $4,000
Gregorius has fit in seamlessly since returning from injury earlier on this season. In his past 24 games before Wednesday’s action, he has driven in 22 runs with a .825 OPS. Gregorius is 2-for-6(both hits being homers) versus Athletics starter Tanner Roark.
OUTFIELD
Tommy Pham TB $5,000
The Rays profile well at Camden Yards Thursday night. They will draw Asher Wojciechowski and the Baltimore Orioles who rank 30th in team ERA for the month of August. Wojciechowski comes into this one with a 2-and-6 record in 49 innings of work with a 4.78 ERA. In Pham’s last six games prior to Wednesday’s action, he is 6-for-21 with three homers, five RBIs and a 1.226 OPS. Pham has also been very good versus the Orioles all season long compiling a .295 average to go along with three homers and 10 RBIs in 11 games.
Michael Brantley HOU $5,300
The Houston Astros continue to mash and Micheal Brantley continues to be a big part of the offense. Brantley has been red-hot of late going 15-for-30 with a 1.412 OPS in his last seven prior to Wednesday’s action. The Detroit Tigers and starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann will be up against a stacked lineup. Zimmermann has just a single victory in 16 starts this season, he also carries a 6.66 ERA in 77 innings of work. Lifetime, Brantley is 4-for-10 with five runs driven in versus the veteran right-hander.
