A few marquee matchups will take center stage Thursday as the Cubs and Cardinals will continue their rivalry at Busch Stadium. Boston Red Sox will look to keep mashing in their series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Houston sends their ace Gerrit Cole to Progressive Field to play the resurgent Cleveland Indians. And Clayton Kershaw looks to continue his solid season versus the San Diego Padres. You know the drill, we’re going Around the Horn!
PITCHER
Clayton Kershaw LAD $10,700
Kershaw is rounding into form very nicely of late, his price tag is reasonably set at just under 11 K. He and the Dodgers will draw the San Diego Padres whom he has fared very well against this season going 1-and-0 with a WHIP under 1.00(0.95), most importantly he is averaging 21 DK pts per game. Kershaw last faced San Diego July 5th and worked seven innings while fanning nine, he allowed just a single earned run. As a team, the Padres are slashing .221/ .269/ .376 against the veteran ace.
INFIELD
Paul Goldschmidt STL 1B $4,400
The Cardinals will draw the crafty lefty Jon Lester Thursday night. Goldschmidt has been one of the league’s hottest hitters as he has carried the Cards over the last few weeks. The very affordable price point along with great BvP here make Goldy an easy selection. Goldy is 7-for-14 with a 1.303 OPS in his career versus Lester.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.TOR 3B $4,400
The Jays will get a park boost at hitter-friendly Camden Yards for this one in Baltimore. Guerrero has really picked things up of late going 8-for-20 with 12 RBI in his last four games. Although Asher Wojciechowski has been very good this season for the O’s the Jays and Guerrero can still do damage in the later innings as the Orioles have the second-worst bullpen ERA of 5.90.
OUTFIELD
Mookie Betts BOS $5,500
The Sox are continuing to tear the cover off the ball. Betts and J.D. Martinez will be in prime spots tonight against the Rays as they will lean on left-handed Brendan McKay at hitter-friendly Fenway Park. To date, Betts has put up solid numbers across the board versus the Rays slashing .316/ .391/ .509 in 14 games.
Adam Duvall ATL $4,000
Because of the injury to Nick Markakis, the Braves have had to lean on veteran slugger Adam Duvall and he has done nothing but provided a wealth of offense. Although it is indeed a small sample size of work, there is nothing wrong with taking a flyer on Duvall. In the games he has played this season Duvall has a hit in half of the at-bats while providing tons of pop, four HRs, and a 1.569 OPS.
