On Friday, it was announced that the Carolina Panthers have signed former Detroit Lions wide receiver DJ Chark.
How can he impact the team? What does his contract look like? Is this a good move for Carolina?
The #Panthers aren’t done adding on offense, agreeing to terms with WR DJ Chark on a 1-year deal, sources say. A complete remake of the Carolina offense is underway, and Chark will be a big part. As will their new rookie QB. pic.twitter.com/MUJkUI2PyF

How will DJ Chark impact the team?
Chark will pair great with fellow offseason addition Adam Thielen, giving Carolina another threat in a relatively weak wide receiver room following the departure of D.J. Moore. Chark is a solid receiver for whichever rookie quarterback Carolina chooses … or for Andy Dalton, if he ends up starting Week 1 while the rookie is still developing.
What does his contract look like?
The Panthers signed Chark to a one-year, prove-it type of deal. This is similar to the one-year deal he signed with Detroit for the 2022 campaign. Last season, he played in 11 games and produced 30 catches for 502 yards and three touchdowns in a competitive Lions offense that also featured Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jamaal Williams, among others.
Is this a good move for Carolina?
Chark is a serviceable free agent pick-up for the Panthers. Once Moore was traded, Carolina had nothing in terms of receivers. Current Panthers wideout Terrace Marshall Jr. is a solid receiver whom the organization hopes will have a breakout year in 2023, but there’s no denying that Chark and Thielen offer valuable experience.
Chark most likely won’t match the level of production that Moore delivered, but he will be serviceable for the Panthers, which is what they need at the moment.
