Detroit Lions Face Off Against Dallas Cowboys as Both Teams Look for Redemption

On Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, the Dallas Cowboys will face the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Week 11 of the 100th anniversary NFL season, with both teams reeling from losses in Week 10. The Cowboys lead the all-time series 14-11 and have won the last two matchups. Dallas comes into this week 5-4 after losing to the Vikings last week and Detroit enters this week 3-5-1 after their loss to Chicago in Week 10. The Cowboys are the favored winners at 65 percent.

Dallas Cowboys Notables:

Dallas comes into Week 11 with an average of 437.4 offensive yards per week. Dak Prescott has completed 218 of 319 passes for 2,777 yards, 18 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and a 102.4 rating. Ezekiel Elliot has recorded 178 carries for 788 yards and six touchdowns while Amari Cooper is credited with 53 receptions and seven touchdowns on the season. Robert Quinn leads the Cowboys with seven-and-a-half sacks, Xavier Woods has two interceptions, and kicker Brett Maher hit 29 of 29 extra points and 14 of 20 successful field goal attempts.

Dallas Offense: 

Quarterback Dak Prescott recorded 397 yards for three touchdowns and a 101.4 rating last week and is going for his third game in a row with three or more touchdown passes and his fourth game in a row with a 100-plus rating. Prescott has five touchdowns with zero interceptions for a 135.7 rating in his two career starts against Detroit and is going for his sixth start in a row against an NFC North opponent with two or more touchdown passes.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott posted a career-high 240 scrimmage yards and a touchdown catch in the last meeting and has 120 or more scrimmage yards in the last six of seven games on the road. Elliot also leads the NFL with 6,227 scrimmage yards and 4,836 rushing yards in addition to ranking third in scrimmage touchdowns.

Amari Cooper, who joined the Cowboys in Week 9 of 2018, leads the NFL with 13 receiving touchdowns and ranks fourth in receiving yards. He’s for his fourth game in a row against an NFC North team with 100 or more yards and a touchdown catch. Cooper posted 11 receptions for 147 yards and a receiving touchdown last week against Minnesota and has recorded 28 catches for 493 yards and four touchdowns in his last three games against the NFC North.

Wide receiver Randall Cobb posted a season-high 106 receiving yards and a touchdown catch last week, which was his 14th career game with 100 or more yards. Michael Gallup also recorded a touchdown catch last week and is going for his third game in a row against the NFC North with 75 or more receiving yards and a touchdown catch.

Dallas Defense:

Defensive end Robert Quinn was credited with a sack in Week 10 and has posted four-and-a-half sacks in three road games this season, in addition to recording a sack the last time he played the Lions when he was with the Rams in 2012.

Jaylon Smith posted 13 tackles and three sacks last week against the Vikings and is going for his third game in a row with 12 or more tackles. Demarcus Lawrence recorded eight tackles and three sacks in the last meeting between the teams.

Michael Bennett, recently traded from the Patriots, has recorded five tackles and a sack in his two games as a Dallas Cowboy.

Detroit Lions Notables

The Lions have put up an average of 387.4 offensive and 402.1 defensive yards per week this season as Matthew Stafford has completed 187 of 291 passes for 2,499 yards, 19 touchdowns, and five interceptions for a 106.0 rating. J.D. McKissic leads the Lions with 30 carries for 697 yards and Kenny Golladay has 38 receptions for 697 yards and eight touchdowns. Trey Flowers leads Detroit with five sacks. Matt Prater has connected on 22 of 23 extra points and 17 of 20 field goals.

Detroit Offense:

Matthew Stafford had 307 pass yards and two touchdowns for a 131.5 rating in the last meeting between the two teams, but he won’t play this week due to injury. This places Jeff Driskel is the signal-caller’s place on game day, the same role he was in last week when he posted 269 pass yards for a touchdown and rushed the ball for a career-high 37 yards. Driskel has recorded a touchdown pass in five of his six career starts.

Running back J.D. McKissic had 36 rushing yards, 19 receiving yards, and a career-high six receptions in Week 10 in addition to having 50 or more scrimmage yards in the last three of four games.

Wide receiver Kenny Golladay posted 57 receiving yards and a touchdown catch last week and had 74 receiving yards in the last meeting. Golladay leads the league with eight receiving touchdowns this season and is looking to get his fourth game in a row with a touchdown catch.

Marin Jones had five receptions and led the team with 77 receiving yards against Chicago and has eight touchdown catches in the last seven home games.

Danny Amendola is going for his third game in a row at home with eight or more receptions and 95 or more receiving yards and has at least seven receptions the last three of four games against an NFC East opponent.

Detroit Defense 

Trey Flowers, the Detroit defensive end, posted a sack last week and is going for his fourth game in a row with a sack. Flowers has three sacks in two career games against the NFC East and is going for his third in a row against the conference with a sack.  Flowers also has a forced fumble in the last two of three home games.

Defensive tackle Mike Daniels had his first sack with Detroit last week and linebacker Devon Kennard also posted a sack.

Safety Tavon Wilson posted his fifth career sack in Week 10 and cornerback Darius Slay had three pass deflections in the last meeting. Slay has 12 pass deflections and an interception his last eight games against the NFC East and leads the NFL with 94 pass deflections.
