Denver Broncos Trade Deadline Preview

Denver Broncos

After starting out 3-0, the Denver Broncos have lost four in a row and now sit at 3-4 and their season feels like it is slipping away. There has been a lot of discussions over whether a drastic move at quarterback needs to be made as neither Teddy Bridgewater nor Drew Lock has separated from each other and is helping the team win. The Broncos are also looking to possibly trade one of their cornerbacks in what has turned out to be a loaded room. Denver is a team that looks like they are going to be sellers at the trade deadline and they have some young players that some teams would love to have as they look to make a push for the playoffs.

Potential Trade #1: 2022 first-round pick, 2023 first-round pick, and a 2024 first-round pick to the Houston Texans for Deshaun Watson

As unlikely as it seemed at the beginning of the season, there has been talk this week of the Texans getting serious about trading their franchise quarterback. Watson requested a trade earlier in the year, but that has been put on hold due to the numerous allegations of sexual assault that he is facing. Watson will command a hefty price, even amongst all of the uncertainty and if the Broncos are looking to fix themselves at the quarterback position, this would be the way to do it. This is a very risky move for Denver because potential punishment for Watson could be on the horizon. If the Texans are still able to get three first-round picks from the Broncos, they should jump at the opportunity.

Potential Trade #2: Kyle Fuller to the Green Bay Packers for a 2022 fourth-round pick

It was thought that the Broncos got one of the better free-agent deals when they signed Fuller, but he has been disappointing this season. With the season going the way that it has and the Broncos having other high-quality players at the cornerback position, it might be a good idea to ship Fuller out of Denver. The Packers are a team that could use some cornerback help, with star player Jaire Alexander going down with an injury and the team not having a ton of depth in the defensive backfield. This would be a move that would be beneficial for both sides.

Potential Trade #3: Tim Patrick to the New Orleans Saints for a 2022 fifth-round pick

Wide receiver is another position that the Broncos have a good amount of young players at for the future and Patrick might be the odd man out. With guys like Courtland Sutton and injured young stars like Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler, it might be wise for the Broncos to move Patrick to a team that is looking for wide receiver help. The Saints are still waiting for Michael Thomas to return, but they could still use a reliable No. 2 receiver. Marquez Callaway and Deonte Harris have been fine deep threats, but the Saints could really use an outside threat like Patrick to help them make a push for one of the wild card spots in the NFC.
