I was having a nice, calm day in my neighborhood. I’m taking my dog for a walk when my buddy texts me “Hopkins and a fourth to the Cardinals for David Johnson and a second!” My brain would not allow me to believe this was DeAndre Hopkins, so my first thought was actually Trey Hopkins, the Bengals’ center. My initial thoughts were that this was a massive overpay on Arizona’s end for a mediocre offensive lineman. Then I went on Twitter.
The Texans actually traded DeAndre Hopkins for a washed-up running back and a second-round pick. This is utter insanity. This is the most surprising deal that I have seen in years. And you know whose fault it is? Bill O’Brien. Apparently, the relationship between BOB and Nuk was not a good one, but here’s my take: fire Bill O’Brien before you trade the best receiver in football. He hasn’t accomplished enough with Houston to be worth more than Hopkins. A fractured relationship like this should have led to his firing.
Now, because of this, the Texans have a depleted wide receiver corps consisting of Will Fuller who can’t stay on the field, Kenny Stills, Keke Coutee, and DeAndre Carter. If I am Deshaun Watson, I would honestly demand a trade right now. Sure, the Texans got a decent running back, albeit he is 28 years old, but at what cost? This is a ridiculous trade for Houston. Absolutely unbelievable.
Let’s look at the Cardinals now. They gave up a running back that they didn’t want along with a decently valuable second-round pick for the best receiver in football. They now have Christian Kirk, Larry Fitzgerald, and Hopkins for Kyler to throw to. What I love the most about this is that they don’t need CeeDee Lamb anymore! They are now free to address the offensive line and the defense. This is a fantastic move for Arizona; I’m thrilled to watch them begin to compete in that division soon.
The obvious winner is the Cardinals here. I’m sorry, Texans fans. You guys got screwed.
