On Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, the Washington Redskins will travel to Arlington, Tex., to face the Dallas Cowboys in the final week of the 2019 regular season. The Cowboys lead the all-time series 72-43-2 and have won the last two in a row. In order for the Cowboys to clinch the division, they need to beat the Redskins and the Giants have to beat the Eagles. Dallas is heavily favored to win with a 92 percent win probability.
Washington Redskins Notables
The Redskins enter the last week of the season following an overtime loss against the New York Giants last week and are 3-12 on the season. Case Keenum has completed 142 of 210 passes for 1501 yards, 10 touchdowns, and four interceptions for a 96.2 rating on the season. Adrian Peterson leads the team with 198 carries for 820 yards and five touchdowns, while rookie Terry McLaurin has posted 58 receptions for 919 yards and seven touchdowns. Matt Ioannidis leads the Redskins with eight-and-a-half sacks on the season and Quinton Dunbar has posted the team-high four interceptions. Miscellaneous Notes and What to Look For
Keenum has a 95.0 or better rating in three of his past four starts on the road and in the last three of four starts against the NFC East he has recorded two or more touchdowns and 100 or better rating.
Adrian Peterson has 111 career rushing touchdowns and surpassed Hall of Famer Walter Payton for the fourth most touchdowns in the league history; he is going for his fifth game in a row with at least one rushing touchdown. Chris Thompson is aiming to play his fourth game in a row against Dallas with five or more receptions.
Rookie Terry McLaurin posted a career-high seven receptions for 86 yards last week and in the Week 2 meeting, he recorded five catches for 62 yards and a receiving touchdown. McLaurin leads all rookies in catches and ranks second in receiving yards while sitting tied for second place in receiving touchdowns. Another rookie, Steven Sims, also set a career-high last week in catches, receiving yards and touchdown catches and is going for his third game in a row with a score.
Defensively, Ioannidis has six sacks in his past five road games and is going for game No. 6 on Sunday. Cole Holcomb is tied for fifth place among rookies with three forced fumbles and ranks second in tackles. Landon Collins is going for his eighth game in a row against Dallas with five or more tackles.
Dallas Cowboys Notables
The Cowboys come into this week after losing a must-win game against Philadelphia last week that would have given them the division title.
Dak Prescott has completed 365 or 563 passes for 4,599 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions for a 97.4 rating on the season. Ezekiel Elliott leads the team with 283 carries for 1,235 yards and 11 touchdowns while Amari Cooper has recorded 75 receptions for 1,097 yards and eight touchdowns this season. Robert Quinn, Jourdan Lewis, and Xavier Woods still lead the team in sacks and interceptions. Kai Forbath has a perfect kicking record since he replaced Brett Maher with five of five extra points and six of six field goal attempts.
Miscellaneous Notes and What to Look for
Prescott has posted a career-high 4,599 passing yards this season and needs 305 passing yards to surpass former Cowboy Tony Romo for the most passing yards in a single season in franchise history.
Elliott has 666 scrimmage yards and seven rushing touchdowns in his six career games against Washington and is aiming for his third in a row against the Redskins with 100 or more rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. Michael Gallup has recorded his first career 1,000-yard season and Jason Witten is going for his third game in a row against Washington with a touchdown catch.
Quinn has recorded three sacks and two forced fumbles in his last four games versus Washington, and Demarcus Lawrence has posted two-and-a-half sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception in his last two games at home against the Redskins. Finally, Sean Lee is going for his third game in a row at home versus Washington with 10 or more tackles.
The Redskins have been eliminated from the playoffs and this week’s game can either be a spoiler for the Cowboys and add one more win to their win/loss column, or the Cowboys can play the quality football they have shown they are capable of playing, win this game, and hope for an Eagles loss against the Giants. Until all of the games are played Sunday, Dallas’ postseason future is uncertain.
