Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants: Week 9 Preview

The Dallas Cowboys will travel to East Rutherford, N.J., on Monday, Nov. 4 for the Week 9 Monday Night Football game. Dallas leads the all-time series between the two teams, 67-45-2, and has won the last five games, including their matchup earlier this year. The Cowboys are coming into this week at 4-2 and the Giants at 2-6, and Dallas is highly favored to win.

The Cowboys enter following a bye week in Week 8 and a victory over Philadelphia the week prior. Dallas has posted an average of 437.9 offensive yards and 324.9 defensive yards so far this season. Dak Prescott has completed 168 of 238 passes for 2,123 yards, 12 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a rating of 102.6. Amari Cooper has recorded 28 receptions for 621 yards and five touchdowns, while Ezekiel Elliott leads with 135 carries for 602 yards and six touchdowns on the season.

Prescott passed for 239 yards with a touchdown and a 100.5 rating plus a rushing touchdown in Week 7. In his last five starts against the Giants, he is 5-0 with 1,552 passing yards and 13 touchdowns for a 120.5 rating. In the Week 1 meeting between the two teams, Prescott recorded 405 passing yards and four touchdowns for a 158.3 perfect passer rating. Prescott is aiming for his third game in a row against New York with 385 or more passing yards and four touchdowns. He has 15 games with both a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown since he entered the league in 2016, which is an NFL record.

Prescott is assisted offensively by running back Ezekiel Elliott who had 147 scrimmage yards and a rushing touchdown in Week 7. He recorded a rushing touchdown in the earlier meeting against the Giants and is going for his third game in a row against New York and the fourth game in a row versus an NFC East opponent with at least one rushing touchdown.

Wide receiver Amari Cooper posted 106 receiving yards against the Eagles and recorded 106 receiving yards and a touchdown catch in Week 1 against the Giants. Cooper has eight receiving touchdowns in as many games versus NFC East opponents. Randall Cobb also recorded a touchdown in the first matchup of the season.

Tight end Jason Witten put a touchdown on the board in the first week and is going for his fourth game in a row against the Giants with at least one touchdown catch. Fellow tight end Blake Jarwin posted a touchdown in Week 7 and has four receiving touchdowns in his past two games versus New York.

Defensively, Dallas has Robert Quinn, who posted a sack in the game against Philadelphia and has recorded six sacks in his five games as a Dallas Cowboy. Quinn is aiming for his third game on the road with two or more sacks, and he leads the NFL with 21 forced fumbles. Demarcus Lawrence had a sack and a forced fumble in Week 7 and has posted two-and-half sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in his last three games against New York. Linebacker Leighton Vander Esch is aiming for his third game in a row with 10 or more tackles. Safety Xavier Woods posted an interception in the Cowboys’ last game and recorded a career-high 11 tackles in Week 1 against the Giants.

On the other side of the field, the Giants are coming into Week 9 following a 31-26 loss at Detroit last week and have only won two games so far this season. Rookie Daniel Jones is 145-for-216 passing for 1,366 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven interceptions for an 84.4 rating. Evan Engram has recorded 28 receptions for 419 yards and three touchdowns, while Saquon Barkley has recorded 74 carries for 373 yards and three touchdowns.  Markus Golden leads the Giants with six sacks, and Janoris Jenkins leads with four interceptions. Kicker Aldrick Rosas has connected on 18 of 19 PATs and four of six field goal attempts on the season.

Offensively, the Giants’ rookie quarterback Daniel Jones completed 28 of 41 passes for 322 yards and a career-high four touchdowns plus a 124.2 rating last week against the Lions. Jones joined Dak Prescott as the only rookie quarterback with two games of 300 or more yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions in the history of the NFL.

Barkley recorded 154 scrimmage yards and a touchdown catch last week and has posted 289 scrimmage yards and a rushing touchdown in his three career games against the Cowboys. He is aiming to record his fourth game against Dallas with 100 or more scrimmage yards this week.

Wide receiver Golden Tate had eight receptions for a team-high 84 receiving yards in Week 8 and is going for his third Monday Night Football game posting seven or more catches, 75 or more receiving yards, and a touchdown catch.

Rookie Darius Slayton had two receiving touchdowns last week, which was his first career game with two or more touchdown catches.

Evan Engram has recorded his 12th career receiving touchdown in Week 8 and has 23 catches for 263 yards and three touchdowns in his last three games against Dallas. He will look for his fourth game in a row with a touchdown catch against the Cowboys this week.

Defensively, the Giants have Golden, who recorded a sack last week and has also posted two-and-a-half sacks, three tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery touchdown in his last four games. Alec Ogletree is going for his sixth game in a row against Dallas with six or more tackles and is one of three linebackers with 30 or more pass deflections since 2015.  Lorenzo Carter also posted a sack last week and has posted a sack in two of the last three games.

Cornerback Janoris Jenkins recorded an interception last week and has posted four interceptions in his past five games. Safety Jabrill Peppers recorded his second career forced fumble in last week’s game.

The game will be televised on ESPN at 8:15 p.m. EST on Monday.
