Juventus and Barcelona are set to square off in their second Group game of this year’s UEFA Champions League. These two clubs are in the same group for the first time since the 2017-2018 Champions League where Barcelona outperformed Juventus. This time, Juventus is hoping to outshine Barcelona.

Cristiano Ronaldo Tests Positive for COVID-19

Unfortunately, Juventus will have to play this game without Cristiano Ronaldo. Earlier this month, the 35-year-old striker tested positive for COVID-19 forcing him to miss at least three matches. However, Goal.com has confirmed that a second test has resulted in the striker testing positive again. It’s unclear how much longer Ronaldo will be out.

Impact of Ronaldo’s Absence

The absence of Ronaldo certainly affects the excitement of this match. The match was depicted as a Ronaldo vs. Lionel Messi, a classic thriller between two of the greatest players from this generation. Such a thriller can still take place. However, it’ll have to be on December 8th. In addition, the second encounter can be a match in which the winner tops the group. That would add excitement to the match. Both teams picked up victories in their opening group games respectively.

Barcelona is coming off a frustrating loss to Real Madrid in the traditional El ClĂĄsico derby. To add insult to injury, Barcelona came up short on home soil. With Ronaldo not available for Juventus, Barcelona’s odds slightly go up. Álvaro Morata is likely to fill in at Ronaldo’s position for the game.

This match will be the 14th meeting between the two clubs in competition play. Juventus is undefeated against Barcelona in their last six games in Turin. However, Barcelona is unbeaten in its last six games against Italian clubs in Champions League play. Juventus vs. Barcelona part one takes place in Turin. Juventus is looking to keep their undefeated streak at home against Barcelona alive.
