A high concern for both Dak Prescott’s future and the Dallas Cowboys emerged today. On The Dan Patrick Show, Prescott refused to throw a football.
Patrick asked if he couldn’t throw because of his shoulder and Prescott said, “Yeah, not right now.” When asked about his shoulder, he stated, “It’s improving every day.” Prescott also said that surgery was not needed and that he was saving his reps.
Prescott injured his throwing shoulder on a seven-yard scramble in the first quarter in the Week 15 matchup against the Rams. He did finish the game and never missed a contest all season, but this is a high concern.
Is this what is delaying the contract process? Such a setback could be breaking news in contract talks. Is Prescott not telling the Cowboys or are they even aware of his situation?
Prescott recently stated that he is confident a deal will be done soon and Jerry Jones has even echoed those thoughts. Rumors are all over the place with Prescott requesting $40 million per year. He has also stated that he doesn’t play football for the money.
The truth is, no one outside of the Joneses and Prescott and his reps actually know where the current contract discussion is at. Prescott threw for 4,902 yards this year in a season where he was playing to prove what he’s worth. Consistency has been what stalled the offense at times that led to losing close games. Prescott just couldn’t string great consistency games from one week to another.
Prescott is also looking forward to building his own relationship with his new head coach, Mike McCarthy. Prescott said he won’t be seeking information from Aaron Rodgers about McCarthy. He said, “I don’t care to get a feel from somebody else off of their judgement, their relationships. I know relationships are completely individual and I don’t even want to warp my mind off of what somebody else thinks.”
Jason Witten
Jon Machota reports that Jason Witten is hoping to play in Dallas next year. However, Witten did say, “But I realize I’m a free agent, too, in March. Any time a new staff comes together, I’ve played a long time, so I realize that may mean somewhere else, too.”
Jason Witten hopes to continue playing in Dallas. "But I realize I'm a free agent too in March. Any time a new staff comes together, I've played a long time, so I realize that may mean somewhere else too." Witten has talked with Mike McCarthy and stayed in contact w/ Jerry Jones.

Reports recently suggested that Witten is interested in following former coach Jason Garrett to New York.
There will definitely be a shuffle in the roster next season. The question is how big of a shuffle is it going to be and what will that impact be. Dallas fans are thriving for an immediate impact and a shot at making a run deep into the playoffs. However, history has shown that after a new coaching hire, the teams usually take a step back and underperform to expectations the following year. There are 30 players expected to become unrestricted free agents, so what does the future hold?
