Washington Redskins receiver Cody Latimer was arrested on Saturday after shots were reportedly fired at a Douglas County, Colo., apartment.
A witness said they heard arguing and what sounded like gunshots, according to the police report. One person did have minor, non-gunshot injuries.
Latimer was charged with assault in the second degree, menacing, and illegal discharge of a firearm, according to Jeremy Bergman of NFL.com. He was also charged with two misdemeanors, prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment. Latimer has been released after posting $25,000 bond.
“There’s an entire back story to this situation that constitutes one of the most highly provocative situations you can imagine,” said Latimer’s attorney Harvey Steinberg in a statement. “Please withhold judgment until all the facts of what took place that night are known.”
Latimer signed with Washington this offseason after spending the last two years with the New York Giants. Last year, he had 24 catches for 300 yards and two touchdowns.
The news of Latimer’s arrest arrives on the same day that Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker turned himself in after an incident involving a firearm.
