Christian McCaffrey Inks Big Deal with Panthers

On Monday the Carolina Panthers showed star running back Christian McCaffrey his worth to the organization with a four-year extension averaging $16 million per year.

This extension makes McCaffrey the highest-paid running back in the league, and includes a fifth-year option and locks McCaffey with Carolina until 2025.

McCaffrey had an impressive season in 2019 despite Carolina’s mediocre finish thanks to a lengthy losing streak. Not only did he practically carry the offense in 2019, but he also made history becoming only the third player ever to record 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in one season.

McCaffrey also broke his own record for the most catches by a running back in a single season and became the only running back to have two 100-reception seasons and recorded a franchise-high 15 rushing touchdowns.

The Panthers drafted McCaffrey eighth overall in the 2017 NFL draft and in his three years with the franchise McCaffrey has posted 623 rush plays for 2,920 yards and 24 rushing touchdowns in addition to his 303 receptions for 2,523 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Clearly, with this contract extension, owner David Tepper and head coach Matt Rhule want to make sure McCaffrey stays in Charlotte.
