Chelsea Wins 2021 UEFA Champions League Title

Chelsea

For the first time since 2012, the UEFA Champions League title belongs to Chelsea. The Blues finished a miraculous underdog run in this season’s tournament. Unfortunately for Manchester City, despite being the overwhelming favorite, they could not get the job done.

The Rise of Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea’s manager, took over for the club four months ago. At the time, Chelsea was sitting in ninth place in the English Premier League standings. It didn’t take long for Chelsea to turn things around as they finished in the EPL’s top four, appeared in the FA Cup final, and led Chelsea to its second Champions League title. In addition, Tuchel is the third German manager to win the Champions League after finishing as a runner-up in the previous tournament. Furthermore, Tuchel is the first manager in the tournament’s history to lead two clubs to the final in back-to-back seasons.

Manchester City’s strong squad was overwhelmed by Chelsea’s motivation, fearlessness, and resiliency. All it took was a blunder by Manchester City’s defense and goalkeeper to give Chelsea the upper hand. In addition, solid defending and brilliant performance by goalkeeper Edouard Mendy allowed Chelsea to stay ahead.

Manchester City Falls Short

Unfortunately, Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne couldn’t finish the game due to an injury. Despite Manchester City’s best efforts, Chelsea managed to overpower them continually. The Blues did miss a few opportunities of their own, but their resiliency kept them out of danger.

Based on how the game went, it seems Manchester City underestimated their opponent. Unfortunately, that mistake cost the 2020-2021 Premier League champions the title. No doubt, a hard lesson was learned, and they know they can’t make that mistake again.

It’s obvious Chelsea was the better team. Furthermore, this Chelsea team will go down as one of the best in history.

N’Golo Kanté would be named Player of the Match. Christian Pulisic is also the first American to play in a Champions League final.
