CFB Prospects to Watch: Week 9

College Prospects

After a bit of a dead week in college football, we are treated with an excellent slate this week and some serious players to look at. Our draft boards are still early in progress, but it’s never too early to give you some names to watch out for; big or small.

Tanner Mordecai, QB, SMU

Mordecai, still a junior, has been right there at the top with some of the best quarterbacks in the nation this year. He leads FBS in touchdowns thrown and can also get it done on the ground. There’s not much talk about his draft status for this year, but with an absolute mess of a quarterback situation in this class, he could be a sleeper quarterback down the road, especially if he can play well against a surging Houston team.

Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State

It’s obvious to say at this point that Garrett Wilson has outperformed his fellow star wide receiver, and seen a higher increase in his stock. Olave still has tons of time to get his stock right back to where it was, however, and a big week against a superb Penn State defense would put him right back in the mix for the top wide receiver in the upcoming draft.

Demarvion Overshown, LB, Texas

People are not talking nearly enough about Overshown. He’s the most competitive player on the Texas defense and is crazy athletic. We’ve seen him line up in multiple positions and even contribute significantly on special teams. Overshown has already excelled in big games this year, but another good showing against a top 15 Baylor team could get him some first-round consideration.

Bralen Trahan, SAF, Louisiana

Here’s one of the most underrated players in the country. Trahan oozes talent and is one of the key contributors to a very good Louisiana team. He’s coming off a six-tackle game and will look to dominate a weaker Texas State team, to continue propelling his draft stock, hopefully into at least Day 2 range.

Zakoby McClain, LB, Auburn

After having 113 total tackles in his junior campaign, McClain has come back and put up 53 so far this year. The senior is an incredibly smart talent at the linebacker spot and has made several key plays for the Tigers. Let’s see this week how he plays against Lane Kiffin’s elaborate offensive attack.
