After a solid professional basketball career in Germany, the 25-year-old made the jump to the NBA with the Celtics this year. In 63 games, he averaged 5.3 points per game on 57.9 percent field goal shooting, while also contributing 4.3 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per contest. Theis logged an average per game court time of just over 14 minutes and had become a valuable addition to Boston’s second unit.
In Theis’ absence, Greg Monroe will likely receive the bulk of his teammate’s former minutes.
Monroe, who has also suited up for the Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns this season, signed with Boston after his contract was bought out by the lottery-bound Suns. In his first 11 games as a Celtic, the veteran Monroe has shot 54 percent from the field, with per games averages of 7.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks.
