CBB AP Poll Reaction: Week 15

College basketball had some major shakeups last week. The former number one team, Auburn, fell in dramatic fashion. Top 10 teams like Purdue, Houston, and Duke got upset, while other smaller programs continued to make some dominant runs. The voters had a tough task ahead of them this week for the AP Poll. Let’s get into some quick-hitters on how they did.

Purdue is Ranked Too High… Again

For the second week in a row, we enter our reactions with a little Purdue rant. The Boilermakers did not deserve to be in the top three last week and after losing to Michigan, do not deserve the top five. Yes, they beat Illinois but there are teams out there, like Providence, with better résumés than Purdue who aren’t losing to mid-tier teams like Michigan.

Arkansas Needs to Go Up

The Razorbacks just knocked off Auburn at home last week. This team hasn’t been ranked in weeks, but they are still 19-6. This late in the season, a team getting hot like this is always a dangerous one and deserves to be ranked higher, especially over teams like Wyoming and Murray State. Sure, it’s fun to see those two mid-major programs ranked, but Arkansas would beat either if matched up right now.

Houston Could’ve Gone Farther

Houston was rolling for the past 13 weeks until they hit a massive roadblock last week. Losses to both SMU and Memphis are detrimental to the team’s résumé and an eight spot drop is reasonable, but could have gone even farther. If not for the upsets elsewhere around the country, the Cougars most likely could have dropped even more and it’ll be interesting to see if they can get back on the horse this week.
