Over the last decade, the Stanley Cup has called Chicago home three times (2009-2010, 2012-2013, and 2014-2015). The Vegas Golden Knights had won three games in a row in resounding fashion, outscoring the San Jose Sharks 16-6. But the Golden Knights wasted a 3-1 series lead and squandered a 3-0, third-period advantage — conceding four goals in five minutes on their way to a (controversial but) severely disappointing overtime loss, ending Vegas’ sophomore year.
In the aftermath of the most shocking story of the offseason in which the Minnesota Wild fired their general manager, Paul Fenton, after only one season, the team announced yesterday that they have hired former Pittsburgh Penguin assistant general manager and former player Bill Guerin as the fourth general manager in team history.

Theirs no question the New York Islanders exceeded all expectations, with the loss of cornerstone forward John Tavares. A good reason for that surprise success can be attributed to the direction of both Lou Lamoriello and Barry Trotz. Trotz 48 wins were the most he has achieved, in his first season with any one team. Helping lead the Islanders to a first-round home-ice berth, they’re first since 1988. They would have a terrific opening round where they knocked off the Pittsburgh Penguins in four, before bowing out to the Carolina Hurricanes.

On December 4th, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced that the board of governors had voted and a 32nd team is going to be added to the NHL, with the team set to play in the 2021-2022 season in Seattle, WA. This has been a long time coming, as in 1974, the NHL announced that a Seattle group was awarded an expansion into the NHL along with a team from Denver. This franchise never came into fruition after the end of the minor pro-Western Hockey League (1952-1974), and lack of necessary funding to meet the deadline. A second attempt for a Seattle-based NHL team failed in 1990, once again coming down to financial demands.
From a Round 3 appearance in 2017 to missing the playoffs two years in a row with less than 70 points (2017-2018 they had 67, 2018-2019 they had 64), the Ottawa Senators have fallen off quickly. A fire sale of players started midway through the season, and a full-on renovation is in play.
