In a time where it seems as if the Texans can’t do anything right, let’s break down what picks they should make if they want to improve their team in this month’s draft.
Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman have 10 picks in the 2021 NFL draft, beginning with the 14th-overall selection, to fix some glaring weaknesses on the Minnesota Vikings’ roster. Most of those picks come from trades, with the mid-season deal to send Yannick Ngakoue to the Baltimore Ravens netting a third-round choice.

Protecting Patrick Mahomes was the Kansas City Chiefs’ priority entering 2021 NFL free agency. Andy Reid had seen the franchise take enough bumps when Mahomes was bludgeoned by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pass rush in Super Bowl LV. Reid and general manager Brett Veach acted once the veteran market opened.

The team signed big-name players at positions of need, with Leonard Williams, Kenny Golladay, and Adoree’ Jackson all getting multi-year deals. Hits accumulated at an enormous pace until Burrow suffered a devastating knee injury versus Washington. After also losing AJ Green to the Arizona Cardinals in free agency, questions arise as to what the Bengals should do at their pick.
Coming off of their first playoff victory in 26 years, the Cleveland Browns enter this postseason with a strong foundation. With nine picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Browns are now in the position of drafting to contend, not just compete.
The New England Patriots enter this draft in a truly unique situation. Like always, defense remains an area of solidification no matter how strong the unit is. However, they might need help at quarterback and wide receiver, too, though Bill Belichick would tell you that his signings of Cam Newton, Nelson Agholor, and Kendrick Bourne are sufficient.
John Schneider and his front office staff in Seattle may have the most difficult job to pull off at this year’s draft. The Seahawks have just three picks in 2021.
The Arizona Cardinals have been aggressive this offseason, signing J.J. Watt and A.J. Green while trading for Rodney Hudson. However, the Cardinals still have several holes on the roster to fill in the draft. With only selections picks, including two in the top 150, the Cardinals will need to hit on all of their picks this year.
The Jacksonville Jaguars seemed destined for the second overall pick in the draft until the New York Jets won against Jalen Ramsey’s Los Angeles Rams. With that, the Jaguars received the top pick in the draft.
